Even insurance guys make homeowners claims!

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Woke up this morning and had an inch of water in pretty much my entire house from a toilet that ran all night and flooded the house. All of the carpet in the house is toast. Laminate wood floors will be replaced. Sheetrock is wet, baseboards, etc.

Good news is I called to make the claim and ServPro was at my house within the hour and started cleaning up the mess (and boy, it's a mess.)

I know someone asked about restoration companies here a few days ago, and I would gladly recommend ServPro. They're coming back tomorrow to do some additional work, but wanted to let the fans/dehumidifier do it's thing tonight.

Anyhow, I just thought some of you guys may get a kick out of the fact it happened to an insurance guy as well. The worst part about it, is that Nationwide would pay for a hotel room for me, but it's Parent's Weekend and EVERYTHING is booked. Luckily, my sister and brother in law live in town, so we're going to shack up with them. Hopefully we can get all the floors replaced quickly and not be out too long.

Oh, and have your sister write up an invoice saying you had to stay in their guest wing that they rent out for $1,500 a night but since you are family, $2,000 a night and claim on your ALE.

Dallas, so is this under the homeowners or a flood policy? Just curious if this is considered rising water for flood or if your normal homeowners covers it.

We have both since flood is not very expensive. We don't live in a flood plain or near water but have a pool, so I have it just to cover my bases.

This is water damage that is covered by most policies (not all policies). Flood insurance would be used if it was "rising water from the outside that effects at least 2 acres or at least 2 homes in an area."

That must have been some deuce, Dallas. Sorry to hear that your crib is wrecked. Glad to know you have good insurance...

that's the thing though, Villager - it wasn't the deuce. I would have understood if it had been.
