I don't know if this has been posted here before or not. (sorry if it has)

(make sure to click on the video titled Trucks, Tortillas and Tombstones pt. 2)

It's a video from Lyle Lovett where he discusses a song that he wrote about downtown Bryan. The cool part about it is that the video is all shot in downtown before all the renovations started.

I thought it was very interesting to see some of the storefronts and the palace theater before they were re-done. It's amazing how well the downtown is doing now!

Not sure who that was Lyle was talking to... but he seemed very pessimistic about rehabilitating the area. I remember a time when it seemed that way.

Glad he was wrong.

That was great. Love that song with Lovett and REK.

I passed this along. Good find!

Just scratch the surface here a bit on MyBCS and folks JUST like him will pop right out of the woodwork. A times it sounds as if they all want rutted dirt paths leading up to their mansions.

Thanks for posting that. I was born here in '54 and it gave me chills. Guess I never realized how much I loved this place.

You're welcome! I actually got it from Downtown Uncorked's facebook update and thought I would help spread it around. A very cool find indeed!

Very cool! Looks about the same as it does now though. LOL. Oh, and I don't think the Palace Theater was re-done. I believe it was torn down except for the facade. I could be wrong though--don't go to downtown Bryan much.

Thanks for posting! We dine in downtown Bryan often and always marvel at what an awesome restoration it's been.

That was Bob Rogers, former head of the Journalism Dept at A&M.

Goes to show that just because you are professor with a lot of degree's, you don't know any more than the next guy.

You are wrong. The roof collapsed in 1986, and the site was cleaned up and coverted to an ampitheater. The stage and Palace sign are from the original structure.

Yeah, aside from the fact that the Palace is now an amphitheater, the Dixie(shown after gutted by fire) was rebuilt thanks to Reid Monroe, The LaSalle being open and the Howell building next door renovated and in use and the block where Lyle and his prof first walked by now contains well over a million dollars in reinvestment between Murphy's, Brauhaus, Fibertown and others, it does look exactly the same.

Tonight I went to downtown Bryan and heard a great live concert at the Palace. Watching that video, the decline and rebirth of downtown seems like a miracle.

River Bridge Cafe/Koppe Bridge will be presenting free jam sessions every other Friday at the Palace. I hope to see all my TexAgs friends there on the 23rd. Starts at 7 PM.

Yet another awesome piece from one of the most under rated men in music.

The last line is great.

God's Peace,

Thanks for sharing this!

When I was courting my wife I took her to Los Nortenos for a bite to eat and she said, "Omigosh, this is from the Lyle Lovett song!" She loves his music but never realized the song was referencing downtown Bryan. After spending a few moments her first time there, she made the connection immediately.

It's nice our community has friends that can sing its praises. Literally.
