Looking for a place to get good quality meat for cook outs since it finally is warming up.

If you're looking to buy at a grocery store... Village Foods has really good meat. For a butcher type store, The Butcher Block on Texas in Bryan is good.

Ive heard from numerous people that the butcher shop on west campus has great meat at a cheap price. They apparently have the best fajita meat too. No idea if its true as I've never been there, but its something to try out if thats what youre looking for.

I typically go to Readfield's for all of my meat. I've never had a bad experience there.

I haven't purchased anything from the west campus butcher place, but last time I checked, I didn't think their prices were as cheap as everybody claimed.

All right, I'm going to give you all one of my biggest secrets here...

Go to Rosenthal and buy a marinated tri-tip. It comes shrinkwrapped in the heavy plastic. Get a nice hot fire on your grill and sear it on both sides, then move it off the direct heat and use your instant read thermometer until it's done to your liking. (Medium rare for the Tailgate family!) Pull it off, let it rest for five minutes or so, and slice it thin against the grain. You can thank me later.

If you dont mind the 20 minute drive to Snook then I would suggest Slovaceck's. They are open late, where as most meat markets close at 5 or 6 in the evening. If you dont have the time, then Readfields would be my next suggestion.

Rosenthal FTW! We bought our skirt steak from them for the BeerFest fajita cookoff and it was great meat. Pretenderized and vacuum sealed for less $ than anywhere else I could find in town. We won first place at the cook off btw.

And while you're at Rosenthal, pick up a 1/2 lb bag or 2 of their jerky. Amazing flavor!

Slovacek's Meat Market. Worth the trip to Snook. Readfield's is our second choice.

Thanks for the tips on Slovacek's and the TAMU place, y'all. I'll have to try both out someday. I do like Readfields. I also like to get "choice" cuts at Sam's, which are reasonably priced.

Actually I have tried just about everywhere in town. I like a good steak. The best I have found is Sam's believe it or not. I like to buy their whole ribeye and have them cut it up to my liking and trim it. It is consistantly very good. No one in town even the meat markets carry prime... so you don't do any better going to a meat market. But I have never had a bad ribeye from Sam's.
