How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm moving into my first apartment in a few weeks. I'm not looking for "college kid" furniture, and I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for super nice stuff either. I'll be getting married in about 18 months, so I feel like it'd be a waste to buy crappy stuff that won't last now.

Is there any nice cheap/used furniture stores in the area? I'm just looking for basic desk/dresser/dining set...things like that.

Check out Big Lots, Target/Walmart, and the used furniture store on 2818 across from Walmart.

I would go to the Habitat for Humanity re-store in Bryan. It's off Texas, behind the old Kroger. They would have everything you might need - and it's for a good cause.

take a trip down to Ikea. I've had my coffee tables and book stand from there for years. They were inexpensive but they have held up well

There's not an Ikea here, is there? I'm guessing the closest is one of the Houston malls or maybe there is one in the Woodlands?

The Houston Ikea isn't too much of a haul from here. I hit up all my relatives to see if they were considering purchasing new furniture soon. My uncle said he was thinking of getting a new couch so he went ahead and pulled the trigger and gave me his old one. I was able to scrounge up enough stuff to outfit my first apartment with furniture modestly and just had to spend money on cleaning supplies and a few kitchen things.

I agree with Wurm. Borrow and ask as many people as possible for used furniture. The more money you save today you can invest in the items you want when you get married.

I would check out yard sales, Craig's List, TexAgs, Facebook Marketplace for used furniture especially things like a table and chairs. If you live here in BCS wait until May-ish. Students are practically throwing out the furniture mommy and daddy just bought them.

I found a great table and chairs on TexAgs for $20 and I still use it today. Good luck to you and your marriage!

If you're aiming for value and not instant gratification, craigslist and garage sales are hard to beat.

All my family (except parents who don't have any extra stuff) are out of state...so that's not an option.

I have an Ikea near home and have been looking through their catalog...

I'm all for used stuff though...if I can find decent things at a good price! I just hadn't thought of where to look for that kind of thing in CS
