I'm trying to figure out how long it will take me to get to Brenham this afternoon. Google is saying an hour from Bryan to just North of Brenham, but that seems like a lot for the ~30 miles.

where at in Brenham?

first portion of 50 (after 60) is 70, IIRC, but it drops near Clay and Independence.

I take this route now and then for business. Budget the hour to be safe. A little more than half the time you'll get lucky and move right through with no problems and be early. The problem is that often you get stuck behind a slow truck or tractor on those farm roads and end up 15 minutes late if you are counting on a quick trip. The speed limit is irrelevent, the encounters w/ slow traffic is the deciding point.

keep in mind you've got 2 alternative routes should you get caught behind slow moving traffic.

Cut over at 1361 off 50 (over to Somerville, take 36 into Brenham).

Cut over at 390 off 50 (over to 36, then into Brenham).

you'd better like 2 lane roads with turns to go this route.

True. It's more of a scenic detour.

I travel to Brenham frequently, the fastes route to downtown Brenham is Hwy 50 versus using hwy 60, it will shave 10-15 minutes off your trip. If you cut over to FM 2155 and 1361 in Snook it will dump you out in Somerville, which will add 5 minutes to your route vs hwy 60. Hwy 50 is going to be the fastest.

The speed limit is 70 mph on FM 50, FWIW. At least that is what my ticket said when I got busted for 113 mph out there several years back.

There will only be slow traffic with no place to pass if you are in a hurry. If you have all the time in the world you will be the only one on the road..
