My wife and I are Dim Sum fanatics and we have never seen it here. Have to drive to Houston Bellaire area to get it.

No, not here.
There used to be a place that had it on sundays.
A restaurant here couldn't sell enough to keep it fresh. As you can tell by some of the responses you receivced, most people here either don't know what it is or wouldn't eat enough to keep a Dim Sum restaurant in business.

Okay that pic still doesn't answer my question. If I knew what it was, I would try it.

Barstool,

I have only tried dim sum once so I am no expert, but as I understand it is a type of Asian dumpling. Different types of meats/vegetable fillers wrapped in thin coverings.

Hope this helps.

Dim sum is actually a type of chinese cuisine that consists of small plates of appetizers along with rice porridge.

The name dim sum, is cantonese. In madirin it is called dian xin (êyS) which loosely translated means "heart warmers".
These restaurants are really popular on Sundays. The whole family goes to lunch on Sunday. The servers bring carts around and you just point at what you want. The server keeps a tally of all the dishes that you take off the cart.

It's mostly dumplings but also ribs, meatballs, sticky rice, small fried sqiud and shrimp, eggrolls, cakes and desert.
If you've never eaten at a dim sum restaurant, it's an experience you really should try.

+1 Ocean Palace, and glad to know you think it's the best in the state...it's the best in Houston that we have found.

If you've never tried Dim Sum - GO. If you're new try the dumplings called Shaomai ("Shoo-My" shrimp or pork and the Char siu baau ("Char-Soo-Bow" which is BBQ pork in a light bread. Both are fantastic. Dip in soy sauce and spicy mustard to taste. There are dozens of other options - just try things that look good. If you go with a group it works great because a plate typically has 3-4 of an item so you can share. We always get a nice Chinese beer to go with. Yum! I'm craving it so bad now.

I don't think a dim sum place will ever make it here. I wish as it would be great. I am chinese and grew up on dim sum in Chinatown in the SF Bay Area. Dim sum is chinese brunch. They push carts around the restaurant and you order servings off the cart. It ranges from steam dumplings stuff with everything imaginable to noodles to rice porridge to fried dumplings to chicken feet. You eat until you cannot walk.

Ocean Palace is good. We go down there every few months for dim sum and shop at the grocery store next door. There is a better place off of 59 south but I cannot remember the name of it right now.

If you're really craving dim sum, I know the BCS Asian Market on 2818 and Texas sells frozen dumplings and buns. Tastes pretty good, of course it's not the same as fresh dim sum, but it works!

Imperial used to have that....I remember because one of the dishes was a chicken foot.

Bought from the BCS store before. Not nearly as good but doable.
