I was wondering if others have had the terrible experience we have been forced to have due to this business.

My wife and I bought a service contract for our ice maker when we bought it. It went out about 1 month ago and we called the 800 number on the service contract. Paul's was the company that was assigned to our repair by the warranty company.

He came out and told us to turn the ice maker off for 24 hrs and call him back if it did not turn back on when we restarted it. It did not work when we turned it back on, so we called him. And then we called him, and then we called him, and then we called him.

1 week later after 3 or 4 unanswered phone calls, we called the warranty company. They called Paul's who told them Paul's would call us back when a part came in. We waited another week. No call. So we called Paul's, and called Paul's, and called Paul's. No call back.

Last Wednesday, I called Paul's and said I needed my refrigerator repaired (lying, sorry). He called me back within 5 minutes. I asked him when he would be coming out to fix my ice maker. He told me he would be here on Friday (yesterday). He did not show up or return my phone calls again. My wife checked his BBB rating. It is an "F".

Last night, I called the Warranty people again. They then called Paul's. Paul's said they would be here Monday, and if he did not show, they would assign a different service company.

I wish I could use another service company. Has this happened to anyone else?

Our fridge went out a year or so ago and I used this guy for the first time. He showed up that day and the part came in the next day and he installed/fixed it...It was a good experience for us...

I had a horrible experience w/this guy! Very much like yours. I got assigned to him thru our home warranty plan. I don't live in BCS. My student son lives there & was trying to handle this. Paul would not call or show up. Then he finally showed up & said he needed to order a part for the gas range & he would have it in a few days. Weeks went by & he would not respond. Finally one day I called him & left a message that it had to be resolved that day. He goes over to the house & cleans the original part, he never replaced the part! Did I mention the times he said he went to our house & said no one was there? He was at the wrong house! I don't have a home warr anymore so I am on my own now but I would NEVER use this guy again!

Over the years I have used Jim’s Appliance Service several times and been pleased with his service and prices. His number is (979) 693-3800. I even called him for advice before buying all new appliances for our almost complete kitchen remodel.

What sucks, is that in most cases, a warranty company is paying less than full retail for a repair(think health insurance). This usually makes the repair person less than enthusiastic to come out and make a repair.

Agreed. I have been contacted by these home warranty companies to provide service to their warranty customers (not appliance repair mind you). After you hear about all of the fine print, hoops to jump through and slow pay to boot (usually they want to put you on a net 45 or longer payout) it is not appealing unless your desperate. They also tell you what they will pay you per job or set limits on what you can charge them.
Regarding Paul's, you have to sign up to do this, its not forced on you. He probably signed up for it because they painted a nice pretty picture for him to sell him on it to do it. Now's he's found out its not all that great of a racket.

I was told several years ago by a repairman that the average life of an icemaker was about 18 months with our mineral-laden water. I have never had one and thus have never had the problem. My kids think I am crazy!

huh??? ours has been working just fine for over eight years! He doesn't know what he is talking aobut. And FWIW - "after warranty" service plans are the WORST investment you can ever make. Don't buy them!

I have heard similar experiences with Paul's (I know I'll never use them)

I know warranty companies usually screw the repair guy, (I know we wouldn't even bother sending out a tow truck with AAA as the rates were pathetic)

I got a home warranty with my house, and they they turned down 3 out of 4 of the requests. (which is why I won't be renewing)

From reading on the internet this seems to be pretty common, which is why so many companies ell them.

Paul's Appliance did not show up or call again. The service contract company fired them from repairing our ice maker and now Sears is coming on Friday.

I recommend that no one EVER use Paul's Appliance if they can. IMHO, Paul's deserves the "F" they have earned from the BBB.

At this point, I'd stop being mad at Paul's appliance repair and start getting angry at the warranty company. I'd give your warranty company an F.

I had a warranty repair situation with my ice maker on a brand new Samsung. Samsung nominated Mr. Appliance. He showed up on time and stayed with the job until it was fixed. No parts needed but it took awhile and a lot of patience to get it fixed. I would hire them again if out of warranty. But this was only one experience.

I had the same experience. Called the warranty company. Paul's was there the next day. Said he needed to order a board and would take two days. Two weeks later and several unreturned phone calls and I called the warranty company and complained. They got in touch with him and said the part had just come in. He came two days later, put the part in and said if I had any trouble to call him. That afternoon, it was still not making ice. I called and three days later still did not have message returned.
I called the warranty company and insisted they get me someone who would return my calls. They gave me someone in complaint resolutions who ended up assiging Buddy's. They came out and fixed it with no problems.

Also, I have had an under sink ice maker before that I had issues with so I had no problem buying the service policy which I normally don't do. I really like this ice maker,by the way. The policy has paid for itself at least two times over. In this case, it was well worth it.

Had two separate problems with my freezer in the past year. The first was over a holiday. The only place I could find that could come out that day was Mr. Appliance.

They did such a fantastic and friendly job that I called them up months later when something else went wrong. Same fast and friendly service.

They've pretty much earned my business for any kind of appliance repair I'll ever need.

Wow...that is God awful service. Makes you wonder how someone like that can stay in business. Paul should use the art of communication. Simply make phone calls, even if you can't make it and explain why....

18 Months? Man after 15 years mine failed here in BCS. Guess Im lucky!

They tell you that to get you to buy the extended warranty.

$1000.00 refrigerator. $300.00 for an ext warr = 30%

$30,000 for a new car. $1200.00 for an extended warranty = 4%

4% is worth it, 30% is plain stupid.

I agree NEVER EVER buy an extended warranty on appliances or TV's.

Lowes is contracted with Paul's for appliance repair in B/CS. I too had a horrible experience with Paul's. No return calls, no showing for appointments; when he finally did show, he didn't fix the problem. I called Lowes and told them that I'll take my business elsewhere if they can't use a more dependable repair company.

Buddy's Appliance (where we bought the ice maker) found out that Paul's Appliance Service was giving us the runaround. Buddy's came and fixed our ice maker! Thanks for the excellent customer service, Buddy's!

In my opinion, Paul's Appliance Service is the absolute worst organization I have ever had to deal with! Do not EVER use them!
