Speaking of dog friendly restaurants

A few weeks ago we were at a local eating establishment that allowed dogs on the patio. There was a family out there with some big, furry dog. At one point during their meal, their dog starts to bark and wants to walk around. (They had the dog leash attached to one of their chairs so the dog could only walk a couple of feet).

Now, if a dog starts barking and making noise during a dinner, should they be asked to leave or at least put the dog in the car?

If a child starts screaming and making noise during a dinner...

if I go out to eat and someone's dog is there (quiet or not) I will express my disatisfaction to the owner and or manager and leave. I should not have to put up with this in an eating establishment.

Whether it's a child or a dog, and the child or dog is being a nuisance to other patrons of the business, then it is irresponsible for that parent of child/owner of pet to not do something to try and minimize the noise.

Kids will be kids and pets will be pets, but PLEASE consider the other people in the establishment when your child/animal is being loud and/or obnoxious. I have kids, and we consider others before we even leave the house, by packing up small things for the kids to do to keep them entertained while we are waiting for service and food.

If your kid is screaming, politely get up from your table and take the kid for a walk, let them go run around outside for a few minutes, and continue the screaming fit somewhere other than right next to people who want to enjoy their meal. Easy, and polite.

Case in point. We went to Santa's Wonderland a few weeks back. It was freezing cold. There was a mom who had a toddler, maybe 18 months old, who screamed the enter hayride. Why? Because the mom dressed him for warm weather and the kid was freezing. We put up with this screaming fit for the entire 35 minute hayride. Now, after paying $60.00 to ENJOY the hayride with our family, we certainly did not get the full enjoyment out of it since we had to listen to the kid the entire time. It wasn't the kids fault, we realized that, and even offered our blanket that we brought from home for the mom to wrap around the kid. She declined our blanket and the kid froze the entire time. Bad parenting = bad hayride.

I think that if you go to a restaurant that allows dogs/pets you are subject to deal with the behaviour that comes along with the patrons. Be that kids/dogs/rude people or whoever the case may be.for the most part I don't think people with obnoxious kids/dogs realize it because they allow that behaviour and are used to it.I feel like if you don't like what you see/hear or witness you have the right to get up and leave. Personally, I think it is inappropriate to allow dogs into an eating establishment area. Seems like it should be some sort of health department issue. So I just don't go eat there. However, I do have friends that feel the opposite and think their dog likes to "get out". So I just keep my opinion to myself.....except on mybcs of course!

why equate kids and dogs?

And I for one take my son out as soon as he starts getting fussy. He doesn't even have to scream or cry before I am walking him around. If that doesn't work, hubs gets our stuff boxed up and we go home. I hate crying kids in public.

My children are grown but I can tell you that I would rather eat dinner with a dog than with a unruly child at the next table. Parents these days are just too afraid of 'hurting their child's feelings' to the point that they let them get away with any type of bad behavior!

If you go to a place that you know allows dogs, you should expect dog behavior. If you have a problem with dogs at a restaurant, go somewhere that doesnt allow them.

This. Unfortunately, most people are too stupid or selfish to follow this principle.

Also the fact of nearby patrons muttering something with the initials CPS in their sentences when parents try to discipline their children in public. This is another reason why people in public would rather just let their kid cut up than to get their kid to quiet.

A lot of people used this same inane argument about smoking in a BAR and all it got was a law banning smoking in bars. What if I am allergic to dog hair? Do I have the RIGHT to throw the pooch out? I go to a restaurant NOT expecting to sit next to someone's stinking, panting dog or their hair covered owners.

Yeah your right no one should ever eat a peanut product again in public because someone around them may have a peanut allergy. Damn, I am going to miss peanut butter.

He's being sarcastic. If I were to go into a restaurant that allowed smoking/dogs, I would expect to have to deal with dog/smoker behavior. But no one seemed to want to have to choose between a smoking bar and a nonsmoking bar, and instead wanted to be able to go into all bars and not smell smoke, so those people decided it would be best for everyone if all bars were nonsmoking.

I like my dog only. I don't appreciate it when there are dogs on a patio at a restaurant. I would ask to sit inside if there were dogs on the patio. My pup gets taken to the vet and a walk around the neighborhood. He's content with that.

BTW,

Smokers are a pimple on the butt of society and need to find their own planet and leave this one and the residents of this one alone.

Enjoy having a face that looks like a catcher's mitt, a constant cough, a car that nobody will want to buy used, lovely stained teeth, a higher risk of MANY diseases, and clothes and hair that smell like an old ashtray.

I do thank you for paying the stupid tax/sin tax on each pack of cancer sticks that helps to fund our great state. We can only hope they raise that tax even higher to keep fools and their money parted even further.

But hey, you people are smarter than the Surgeon General, right? You should be making decisions that affect the quality of the air I breathe in a public environment.

lol @ you not realizing the irony in a liberal saying it's ok to impede on another's liberty. I never posted what my political affiliation is, so there is zero irony or hypocrisy in my posts. You claim you are a liberal yet you want to stifle personal liberties. That's hypocrisy.

Thumbs down to people who care about my dog or my cigarettes.
Also, those who do not know the difference in stock and stalk.

except this liberal never said it was okay to impede on someone's liberty. Saying I don't want to walk through smoke to get to Subway doesn't do that.

But like I said, you will post it doesn't say what it reads and you will insult me.

I posted on other threads this morning. You should stock them. I mean, you are obsessed with my uninteresting posts.

I know what it's like to eat at a nice place and have kids running around the tables or climbing on the empty booths for the sake of not letting them cry when they get tired of sitting in their high chairs...I get very embarrassed that this happens and sadly it happens to be relatives that allow it. I say if they're gonna cry and pitch a fit, take them outside or in the restroom and settle them down...let the rest of us enjoy our meal...

rock, we get it. Your high & mighty attitude towards smokers is well documented around here. You've even resorted to insults. Are you proud of yourself?

Although all are entitled to their opinion, I think generally speaking, American society is too uptight.

Everyone should not get as worked up as they do. Stress is a killer, that's why, I know some will hate this, Europeans generally live longer. Funny thing is, most of us are from European ancestry, so go figure.

Neither one of the aforementioned issues is any type of infringement on personal liberties. This isn’t a liberal or conservative issue.

No one is saying you can’t own a dog. No one is saying you can’t purchase or smoke cigarettes. You do however run the risk of someone objecting to your choice once you go out in public. Your freedom can’t inhibit my freedom.

If you take your dog to a restaurant and someone complains about the animal’s behavior, you should take your dog back to your car or tie him/her up outside the restaurant, regardless of the restaurant’s pet policy. The same could be said for loud children. Not saying tie up your kids, but if they are misbehaving or are out of your control and its affecting other people besides you, you should respect the feelings of those around you and either discipline them or remove them from the restaurant. Apply the same rules to smoking. If you are smoking in a public, closed environment, you must realize that your choice to smoke also affects the health/personal enjoyment of those around you. The whole “I’m going to keep my barking dog here whether you like it or not” or “I can smoke wherever I want” attitude is not, in my opinion, the appropriate way to approach the situation.

I would equate it to listening to music in a public place. You don’t simply bring a big, loud stereo with you to the coffee shop or the library do you? No, you bring your headphones, because forcing your musical tastes on everyone else would be rude and (possibly) have a negative impact on other’s use/enjoyment of the same surroundings.

When those who engage in said activity (dog owners/inattentive parents/smokers) start to ignore the wishes of those around them, it may become necessary to regulate said activity in public places. Many believe that the property owner should be allowed to set all rules for what occurs on their property, but where would you draw the line? You can’t ignore that there are legitimate health concerns associated with pet dander and smoke. However, I’m not aware of any health concerns associated with screaming/obnoxious children, other than elevated blood pressure…

Dead on. I get so tired of the people who think that just because its free, they can do it wherever they want.

Take smoking for example. Why should I have to pick a restaurant I dont like over my favorite restaurant just because you choose to force your freedoms on everyone else at my favorite restaurant? You can still smoke. Nobody stopped you from doing that. We just gave you a place to do it where you aren't giving cancer to everyone else.

you missed the entire point of my previous post! I contend that the small BUSINESS OWNERS have been identifying niches and forming new businesses to meet the needs of consumers for centuries. It's called capitalism. For example, if I identify a demand for an eating/drinking establishment for smokers I should be able to fill that niche. You cannot do that in College Station because we allowed our local politicians to take away that right. If you are more satisfied with having government tell you what to do then so be it. I am quite confident in making my own decisions and I have never needed some pin headed politician to tell me what I needed. If you enjoy being told what to do then sit back and relax. The liberals and socialists are here to make your world better!
