If anyone is interested in purchasing a used bicycle, here is your opportunity!
Starting October 7,2009 at noon The Texas A&M University Surplus Property Division will again offer to the Public bicycles for sale. They have over 700 bicycles to sell, so hopefully you can find one that meets your needs, or for your family.
The bikes that are being sold have been left by students (or families of students) who have either graduated or left the university for some other reason. Bikes of all sizes are normally found at the sale. All bikes will be sold for $30.00 at the start of the sale. Get there early. The best bikes normally go very fast. Some of the bikes are in perfect condition and some will need minor repairs. After a few days the price will be lowered on all of the remaining bikes. All bikes are being sold "AS IS WHERE IS" and "All sales are final".

Do the doors open right @ 12 or can you go earlier?

I need to pick up a couple for my parents, sister, and a brother in law.

You better get there early if you want something that's not rusted all over.

You can go today and tommorrow and scout them out. Once Wednesday hits they will section off the area. They also sell their better ones on line, but I think they are between auctions right now.

Anyone know where they sell them online?

This was still going on as of yesterday, and there were plenty of bikes to be had.

However, bring your own tools and plan to build a bike. There are lots of good parts, but good luck finding them on the same bike. You'll do well if you do what I and another couple of people did: cannibalize two or three bikes to make one good one.

Oh, and the price had gone down to $20 as of yesterday, don't know what it is today.

Still $20, but you're right they don't care if you build a bike from existing ones. From talking to them they will probably mark them down to $10 early next week sometime.

beware... bike seats + post (if they are missing) are in excess of $40 if purchased locally. Seat from Walmart = 16, post from local bike store $22-25. My $30 bike would have turned in to $70 Search online and you can get them together for around $20-25 but you have to wait a week or two.

Get a complete bike with working parts or you may as well buy a $80 bike new and not have to worry about it.
