Went there the other night, Queso was good although $6 for a cup is high

chips were stale

tacos were slathered with chile lime sauce (2 steak tacos ala carte $9)

Sauce is good in small amounts

Service was good, but pricing and food was not good enough to return.

your assertion doesn't count unless you drink there.

I have never been impressed with this restaurant...too much money and the food is not good!

God, the fish tacos are good.

And the drinking is really good.

Its a little pricey, but not excessive IMO.

Reduce the prices by ~20% by buying a $100 gift card and getting a bonus $20 card.

I really love La Bodega and have been going there for years. I even stayed with them when they went through this really bad phase where they switched chips until they finally returned to the good chips. My problem has (with the exception of the weird chip phase) never been the food. It's always been tasty.

What I have had a problem with is the service. It used to be fantastic, always loved the waitstaff there. And, I'm seriously not a picky person; I don't need the waitstaff to hover around my table and attend to every little thing. But, a little attention would be nice. Again, great food, but the waitstaff have seemed really uninterested in, well, waiting. In their defense, I have been there once in the last few months and gotten pretty good service. But, here lately, if I want Bodega I lean toward getting takeout or just not getting it at all...

O and I agree the Quwso is very average. Reminds me of Pepe's queso.
Villager

I've never had the queso, but the chips and salsa are awesome. Since I grew up in San Diego, where fish tacos were mainstream, I feel qualified to judge. The verdict? Outstanding. When Melora and I need a fish taco fix, La Bodega is where we go.

I am putting in a positive vote for Bodega. I am a regular and they will continue to serve my friends and I food and shakers because we think it is good.

Bodega's queso is my favorite in town, yes it's a little pricey but it's gooood!

It does tend to smell like sewer in that middle room. Sit in the front or outside

Like the place. Queso is good. The drinks and the crawfish, fish, and habanero tacos are definitely worth a try.

While Pepe's is certainly GOOD, It or La Bodega's is hardly the best in town.

Overall I approve of la Bodega and go quite often on Weds.

The mexican martini's are some of the best I have ever had!

My family and I used to eat breakfast there every weekend. With health issues and economic concerns, we have not been there much recently, but we always enjoyed the food at Bodega.

As for the service, we always had good service when Katia was our server. Some of the others, not as much, but Katia was always very good to us.

Two thoughts for you, Phantom Commentator. One; I meant San Diego, California. Perhaps you were thinking of San Diego, Texas. Two; I'm still pretty young (despite what my kids think). Maybe you're an old dude?

I especially enjoyed going into Mexico and eating them at the docks at these little stands with freshly made tortillas and salsas. Boing. They were awesome. Too dangerous to do that now. La Bodega is a much safer way to go.

I'm with you Villager, I lived in La Jolla (pretty much the same as SD) for a year back in the mid 90s. When I lived there was the first time I had ever heard of fish tacos, but I do remember you could get them at lots of places.

I worked at a seafood restaurant while I was there called Anthony's of La Jolla and we served them. Maybe the other guy didn't live near the coast?
Villager

I love Anthony's. Their clam chowder was always a treat. Heck, everything I ever had there was great. (I got bit by a duck at their El Cajon location when I was a kid. It's finnier now than it was then.)

Are you two talking about the Sushi tacos?........or did I miss other "fish" tacos that they have at La Bodega?

By the way, I am Mexican and also grew up in California........I guess I am over qualified, ha?

Been to San Diego, lived there for a while and La Bodega is OK, best fish tacos were at South Beach Bar and Grill----YUM YUM. Nothing like a coastal city for Seafood-still the freshest place to find seafood.
Now Cafe Excell......I love it there, great food, great service.

I LOVE THIS PLACE. My friend and I had the crab enchiladas. They were AWESOME!!! This is one of the few restaurants I really like. I have only been there twice. The service & price seemed ok to me. I would rather pay more for good food, than pay more for crummy food. IMO IMO IMO

I was born and raised in San Diego, CA and the fish tacos there are plentiful...with many interpretations. Can't beat the melting pot of SoCal flavors!

We've always loved La Bodega. Their burritos are huge and filling. Drinks are always great. Service and chips can be variable, but for the most part, we have good experiences. Yes, they are a bit pricey, but worth it. Especially if you get their 50% off coupons (not sure if they still do that).

La Bodega has a variety of fish tacos, Andyv94. There is a whole section on the menu. Oh, and nobody is over (or under) qualified to have an opinion on myBCS. In fact, if a Mexican from California has a favorite place for fish tacos, burritos and Mexican food in general, I'd love to hear it...
