I had a return this morning (actually an exchange) and couldn't find my receipt for the item but it had all the tags attached and usually isn't a problem. Well, the nice lady at the store (she actually was very nice, just the new policy isn't) let me know that they are now tracking the returns/exchanges without receipts. AND she doesn't know how many you get, but once you hit their magical limit you are permanently banned from returning anything ever again to the store, even if you have the receipt. She said that there is no time-line on this either, that if you return or exchange something now or two years from now without a receipt, it counts toward your being banned.

I checked TJMaxx's website for their return policy and while it states a general one, it also pretty much says that any of their stores can add any restrictions they want.

That is unfortunate. They must have a big problem with shoplifters bringing their loot back in for $$.

I understand the policy, but don't see why it should count against you if you've got a receipt.

seems weird to me that you can't even return something WITH a receipt after X amount of returns. I hope she fully understood the policy before she explained it to you.

I agree about the receipt thing - I specifically asked her that question "would I still be able to return things WITH a receipt?" and she said no, it's a total ban against returning anything. I hope she was correct also, but she was working the service desk so I can only assume that she knew what she was talking about. She said it's been in effect for a couple of weeks now.

She probably misunderstood the new policy.

I'd be willing to bet that it is like walmart and you get 3 returns without receipts in a 12 month period before they deny you.

I used to work there years ago and there was a HUGE problem with people returning stolen merchandise w/o receipts from our store and others. People have no shame sometimes...

annoying, sure...but, how often are you really planning to return items to tj maxx for this to really be an issue?
