Has anyone (who has Spectera) gotten frames other than the standard ones they cover?

How did that work & who did you go through?

I found a pair of frames I love, but was told they could only give me a 10% discount (not covered).

The benefit paperwork says "Spectera's frame benefit applies to virtually all of the frames on the market today,
and most of those are covered-in-full, without any additional cost to the member,
other than applicable copay. Receive a $50 wholesale frame allowance (approximate
retail value of $120 to $150) at private practice providers, or a minimum $130 frame
allowance at retail chain providers."

10% off did not equal $120, much less $50 for this set of frames.

Any help? TIA.

I thought I remember having free lenses every 2 years and a $100 frame allowance.

Lenscrafters special was cheaper than what spectera's insurance would pay.

Sears is having a pretty good sale right now on frames and glasses.

Hmm, I got mine about 2 months ago at Lenscrafters. I had to tell them I had Spectera and they looked it up to find what was covered. I got some Guess frames and added the special non-reflective coating and my share ended up being about $80.

I'm not sure how helpful that is, but it was a pretty easy experience. It was definitely more than 10% off.

Stupid question, but is the place you're looking in or out of the plan? I just had my eyes checked - which was covered, but the glasses at that business aren't covered. They're offering 20% off - but, unfortunately, with the frames/lenses I want/need, that's only a drop in the bucket. And, since they're one of only 3 places in town that offer the frames (the others don't take Spectera either) - I don't have much choice. (other than to get standard frames somewhere else but that would be like wearing combat boots after five years of slippers).

TSO takes Spectera, not sure if that helps or not. My husband got both contacts and glasses last year. He got his glasses at Walmart. Walmart takes Spectera too. We ordered contacts from 1 800 Contacts.

It all depends on what Spectera plan you have. I was able to get some glasses that were more expensive than my plan payed. I just had to make up the difference. I went to eye masters in the mall.
