How long do you want to ignore this user?
Is anyone else still not getting KBTX on their Direct TV? My friend who has a DVR receiver gets it, but I dont and she doesnt get it on her other two non-DVR receivers. I was wondering what others were noticing. Thanks!

My reception is lousy. Sound was acting up tonight. One time it would be really loud and then you could barely hear it the next. I was forever adjusting the volume.

When my contract is up, I am going to go with another service. Any ideas?

Mine works fine on all 3 dishes. 1 dvr, 2 regular.

Rec'd letter from DirectTv in May that I would need to switch out equipment in order to obtain local channels. I had two dishes from their system at the time and received KBTX. Upon the equip exchange which leaves me with one dish, I now do not receive KBTX. My neighbors didn't do the upgrade and still receive our local channel. I'm mad but it costs too much to switch company's and I've had Dish in the past with bad reception. Mike Wright from KBTX states on their website that the station needs to install special equipment to be compatable with the DirectTv upgraded equipment.

Mike Wright has regularly updated this KBTX.com blog since June, both in the main section and by answering comments. It's linked on the homepage, but here's the direct link:

Why do some get interuption and some do not???

We only had to upgrade our non-DVR receiver and we have not had any problems with KBTX.

I had all my DTV equipment changed out on July 15th. No KBTX since then.

I would have really like to have local coverage of the chemical fire/explosion and ensuing evacuation.

My husband talked with Direct-TV today about this and they told him that KBTX hasn't made an agreement with them or something of that sort. On KBTX's website, it states that they reached an agreement with Direct-TV. I'm about to email KBTX. My only concern about all of this, is when the bad weather came through the other week, the only reason I knew about the tornado warnings is because a concerned friend called me. Nothing came across my screen, no emergency broadcast messages ... nothing. I guess I'll just wait and see what KBTX has to say...

Dontcha like getting the weather and news updates for Temple, Waco, Gatesville and other "local" cities?!?

Seriously, I had our receivers changed out about a month ago and haven't had KBTX since, either.

I am one person who never thought he would say he would miss it....

I've been trying to reply all day but the site wouldnt let me. How long does it take not to be a rookie anymore?

Anyway, I have the DirectTV people coming on Sat to "determine the problem". I was told we should be getting it from DirectTV cust service who are pretty much dont have a clue what is going on. i emailed Mike Wright at KBTX when the problem came up and he emailed me back and said they had done everything they needed to for us to get it - it was on DirectTV's back. He also said he would update the KBTX website witht he information and he did.

I will let you all know what the DirectTV guy says on Saturday.

One other questions - to upgrade to the DVR did you have to buy the DVR for almost $200 before you could get it? I thought you rented it and the cust service dude said i would have to buy it.

Thanks all!

I never lost channel 3 on directv, but it still isn't programing in HD. I watch channel 10 from Waco for CBS programing in HD.

We're putting off switching to the so-called "upgrade" until this is resolved. I know KBTX did their part a few weeks ago, so now it's all on Direct TV. Keep after them, everyone. The fire & the funnel cloud are two great examples of why we need a truly local station.

So nobody has an answer as to why some, with the upgrade still get KBTX (like me) and some do not?? I'm going on 2 months with the upgrade and never missed a minute.

Two Direct TV techs came to my house today to update the TV equipment (box) in the bedroom - actually, to replace the box that had previously been put in in June and hasn't worked. The new box now works fine.

One tech. talked about Channel 3 (KBTX). As far as he knows - KBTX still hasn't fixed their problem. He said that many people are frustrated that their equipment was changed out (a change to the larger satellite dish instead of the 2 dishes), and they lost KBTX (only because KBTX has NOT made the conversion). He said he wasn't going to make any more changes for anyone until KBTX figured out their problem because people were getting so upset. So, he told me as soon as KBTX got it all figured out, he would return to take away the small satellite dish.

He also said that Direct TV doesn't even have enough techs. to take care of everyone quickly. Direct TV is 20-40 techs. short PER DAY! We had to wait 3 weeks for him to arrive at our house. He said the techs. are working like crazy.

The DT tech explained to me that DT is trying to get everyone upgraded to 1 big satellite dish instead of 2 small. They are still sending out the signal to the small dish which KBTX is broadcasted on so if you still have the small dish as I do you will still get KBTX. He did not know when but at some time in the future they are going to cut off the small dish and then he showed me how to switch the signal to the large dish. I wrote it down, but it is very cryptic and I hope to be able to follow it when the signals are switched.

Ag mom - I have a personal email from Mike Wright at KBTX that states they finished what they had to do in July. It's Direct TV that has the problem. There is an update on the KBTX website.

Ok - the DTv guy said that KBTX wont be available to everyone until Sept 1. Only people who still have the small dishes are still getting it. I tried to explain to the idiot on the phone that it was going to be a wasted trip but he insisted, so the guy came today and confirmed it. Oh well.

If you dont have KBTX by Sept 1 then call customer service he said.

Be careful when yall do this upgrade... I did the upgrade (and kept KBTX btw) and they upgraded older boxes to HD boxes even though I don't have HD. Service tech said it was no big deal. Next bills were charging me $10 for HD... I don't even have HD tvs. One of the many reasons I switched to Dish (where I also have KBTX).
