Location: On Main St. in Downtown Bryan (Revolution's courtyard is directly in back of it).

What is the deal with that property? The best answer I got was "sooty mold" and "enormously expensive to rehabilitate; not profitable."

Anyone have any better information? Here is the BrazosCad.org file If you want you can click on the map tab for the graphic lot location.

My grandmother used to go play in the Hotel Bryan as a little girl. One of her friends was the daughter of the owner.

I know that doesn't answer your question. The topic just reminded me of her.

Well I am pleased that after 120 views someone had something to say. A lot of downtown properties were sold to the Downtown Bryan Economic Development Association., Inc.(DBEDA, INC.), but this one is still owned by Zane Anderson.

I have been curious about this property for years and it recently came up in a conversation again.

Nice story, BTW. Thanks!

I don't know anything about the condition of the building, but I've been thinking for awhile that it might be good to remodel into studio and one- or two-bedroom apartments. "Enormously expensive to rehabilitate" would explain why no one has touched it yet.

Sounds like a job for the City of Kollege Station.

Only if they can avoid stepping on the toes of "The City of Bryan." I'm sure if there were a tree involved they could make it happen.

Out of curiosity, I wonder what the combined penalty would be for running a red light with an illegally removed tree and then parking on the grass in your front yard where you and five other students live? Could this event cause the meltdown of the entire College Station legal system? Not if you elect (choose) McIlhaney/Lyles!

No Consol. You've been gone way too long, based on all your ellaborate tales, to see what Downtown Bryan has evolved to and has become. It's a beautiful effort between the City and private individuals/investors/companies. The two locations you mention have severe issues which you can probably be better served searching some of the documents online on those properties. Before smirking the Hotel Bryan or Queen Theatre, you should just move on down here and you might find it really interesting... even a backup job in the making for you!

I have heard wonderful things about the rennovation of the LaSalle hotel.

In short, it is better for it not to be renovated currently.

I wouldn't mind a loft there once the time is right.

I totally concur w/ scotch. In it's time, the lofts will be fantastic. After it's all said and done, I'd be happy to have owned that building/floors or however it is on the rolls.

I remember the James Hotel right next to the library, but not the Hotel Bryan.

I don't see how it would be viable as lofts when you have the music and noise generated from events at Revolution. After all, Revolution has received noise complaints from residents on the other side of Texas Ave.

I have lived in the lofts in the Hotel Charles(Papa Perez building) and can tell you that even though it was expected, it can be quite noisy at times.

Niteside the hotel next to the library was the Hotel Charles not the James. It was owned by Charles Myers.

I'd sooner see it turned into a place of business than living space due to Rev. Maybe band rehearsal space would work. Not many creature comforts needed in that case.

i heard that the queen theater was bought for a dollar w/ the agreement that the owners would fix it up within a certain time period..is that true?

oh and what's the story on that old abandoned school that's two blocks west of downtown..w/ the boarded up windows and everything...place looks very creepy.

Yeah, that school reminds me of the kind of building you see in a "kids play prank on unpopular friend and lock him in the former insane asylum and he sees visions and kills everyone" type movie.

Like a lot of old buildings, they could make it very nice to work in, but if it was done wrong it could be downright creepy.

I have a great plan of what I would do with the school if I owned it. Now I just need the money. Anyone have a winning lotto ticket they'd like to share?
