Tried some yesterday and it was great! But they must be pretty proud of it cause it costs a fortune and you don't get very much. Also took them FOREVER to get it out to me. So...go try it but be prepared to wait and pay a lot.

We really like the chicken at Chicken Epxress, but "express" it is not, at least to the customer. I always plan on a wait for any order.

It seems like I remember somebody telling me that the corn nuggets are always cooked per order.. so if you ordered just chicken and rolls, you're likely to get out quick. If you order corn nuggets (maybe other things like fried catfish) you can expect to wait every time?

Disclaimer: I have no first hand knowledge of this, I just remember hearing it from somebody.. maybe somebody else can verify/deny.

Really, people? You're complaining about how fast (or slow) Chicken Express is? I've never had to wait more than a few minutes for my food.

As for food being cooked when you order - that's true for the lesser-requested items, like poppers and fried okra. No sense in making it en masse and letting it get soggy.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Chicken E fan. But in the drive-thru, I had to wait for probably about 10 minutes before my food was ready. I know that it could be worse, but Chicken E is usually a lot faster, so I attributed it to the fact that I'd ordered catfish.

As for what I meant by "a fortune", I'll say that it was about $6.50 for three little strips of catfish and two hushpuppy balls. No drink, no other side.

That IS sort of expensive.

Same experience here as well, AggiePhil. Hubby and I went to get catfish and had to pull forward to wait about 10 minutes. It was around 20 bucks for 2 - 5 piece meals and 2 drinks. I'm not sure if that was a combo price or not since they didn't have it on the drive-thru menu. We had to ask if they served it.

I have had slow service atChicken Express a few times, once had to wait almost 30 minutesfor a family order. At least the kids over on Wellborn Rd are friendly and polite.

It's not just Chicken Express, everything seems to be getting much more expensive. Thee meals from Mickey D's (20+), same from ChickfilA (23+), cucumbers and avocados (1.00 each) at Krogers.

I disagree, the prices at McD's or CFA havent changed recently but the media has everyone so worried about their incomes and job losses and all that the population as a whole is a paranoid about spending money.

Even so 3 people at about $7-8 per is not unreasonable at all. Only way you can do it cheaper is to do yourself. And the restaurants have to pay for their product too, plus their labor and all to make it so you can't just look at it in the context of it only costs $1.88 to make a sandwich with bread, meat, condiments, and the fries the cost on those should be 50 cents and then another 10 to 15 cents for a soda. How much do you really think they should charge?

Could they do it realistically at a lesser price...probably but then that increases their labor costs. Just because you sell something cheaper doesnt mean you have to pay employees less.

Long time ago I managed some in food business, our cost on a 14 oz ribeye was about $9, menu price $17.99, add in the costs to marinate it, spice and all, guy in the kitchen who makes $9 an hour who spends say 20 minutes on it getting it ready on the grill watching it cooking it etc so that increases your food cost by $3 so we'll ball park the total cost of the steak on your plate at $12.50 sell it for $17.99 still not making a fortune off of it. If you have $12.50 in it you can't really just spin around and sell it for $13.

I really like the CE catfish, and my grandparents were river rats that cooked fried fish 5 days a week. It also came out pretty quickly.

The reason the price may be higher is because fryer oil has gone through the roof this year.

We are lucky if we bring home 12-16% profit after labor, food costs and other fixed expenses.
