I just noticed a new Hobby/RC store in town... It is in the old Honda Motorcycle building on South College in Bryan by the Whataburger.
Anyone been in there yet? Worth stopping by?

I haven't been in, but I think (from some of his posts shortly before it opened) chopperdave06 works there.

I've been in a couple times and picked up a Team Losi Micro Desert Truck. It's nothing 'fancy', but the guys I've dealt with seem to know their stuff, which is more important to me. Also, one of my concerns was if the prices were going to be competitive. I found the prices to be in line with internet prices.

They're background is primarily helicopters, but they also have cars and planes, and maybe even boats. If they don't have what you want, they're more than happy to get it.

91 - That's what I was going to ask too. The kiddos and the husband have gotten interested lately and have only been able to find supplies at Hobby Lobby. Not a lot of selection.

I believe Toys R Us has a small selection of model rockets.

Your best bet will probably be mail order, though.

I drove by the part of town and couldn't find this place.

Any one know that name of it or the address so I can google map it?

I don't know the name or address, but it's on South College a little way south of downtown, on the east side of the street.

It's right next to Mansel's. I've been in there and at least when I went it was pretty sparsely stocked. I was just looking because I heard it was there, so I didn't really talk to anyone working there except to say hi. I know it's hard to have a very good stock of RC stuff in a town this size, but it is nice to know that there is one here.

Now only if we could get another homebrew supply shop again...Perhaps that would be a good idea for a hobby shop to expand their customer base. Neither one's inventory takes all that much display area.

Main St. rather than South College then.

My name is Jarrett Watson and I am the manager of Power RC Hobbies located at 903 S. Main Street in Bryan. I would like to thank everyone for their support and interest in our shop as we have just opened on November 26th.

I am sure everyone can understand the financial constraints in opening a new business at this given state of economy. I can assure you that we try to have a well diverse inventory and are continuing to build that inventory as time progresses. Our Philosophy is pretty simple, we try to stock what you need, and we can easily get what you want. We are open to suggestions for what you would like to see us carry, but sometimes it is just not possible to stock everything and be able to stay in business for the long haul.

We currently are stocking Radio Controlled Airplanes, Cars, Trucks, and Helicopters. We carry brands such as Traxxas, Losi, Eflite, JR, Futaba, Dubro, and OS. We also carry a large selection of building tools and supplies. We can get the entire lines of Estes rockets and Athern Trains, and many others. We have catalogs you can browse, as well as internet access to help you find exactly what you need. Our prices are directly on par with 95% of internet prices. We try and do that as much as possible but sometimes the bulk discounts do not get passed down to us little guys. You may get a slightly better price on something online, but they simply cannot give you the one on one technical help and attention that you may need.

Sometimes you may see a "Great Deal" on E-Bay and other Discount internet sites. Please be aware and do as much research as possible on the product that you are buying. Most of the Items on E-Bay are "One Crash Wonders" meaning that parts are very difficult to work with, or are impossible to find. My goal for you is to have as much FUN and success in your RC hobby as possible, and therefore, I am VERY selective to what I stock in my shop for that reason. I have been in this hobby for over 15 years working with Radio Controlled airplanes, helicopters, and trucks. Our staff is very knowledgeable and is able to answer any questions you may have. We will gladly offer any advice that is requested and we hope our suggestions will help you make the right decision for you.

Beginners are always welcome, and we are more than willing to lend a hand, even if you did not purchase an item from us. There are some cool events planned for the Future, such as Swap Meets and several "Saturday Clinics" Taught by Local Modelers and RC Guru's, So please stay tuned, and I will make a Post on here when we get dates for them.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to give me a call at the number listed below. Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 10am to 6pm and Saturday 10am to 2pm. We are located in the Old Honda Dealership building, Behind Whataburger on Texas, right next to Mansels Wheel Alignment Shop.

Thank you again for your time and support.

I was in there on Saturday. The guy in there was very friendly and knowledgable.

There stock seems a little low for remote control cars, but from what they guy said they had recently sold allot of there inventory, and they are a new business so looking for this to improve.

I would say I definitely hope this place stays in business, Would much rather do business locally (actual local, than corporate) and pay 15% more than go online and send the money elsewhere. I can vouch for there pricing being on par with internet pricing (I checked on the items I was looking at, and they were the same if not $5 buck lower than the online pricing)

Hey Jarrett, best of luck with your place.

Haven't been in there yet, but if you have the space for it you might consider setting up a little indoor track. When I was into RC years ago, there was a hobby shop in Ft. Worth that had a track and it kind of became the focal point for the area RC "scene" with races on the weekends and people gathering to practice and stuff on weekdays.

Guys were always crashing & tearing up their cars while learning to drive faster, so the place did good business in spare parts. They also charged a small fee for track time (but waived that for the regulars that they knew were going to buy stuff whenever they came in anyway).

Reminds me that my dad (age 70) wanted an RC car for Christmas this year because he remembered the ones I used to have. We got him a fully assembled one for cheap and he had the best time with it right there in the driveway, he was like a little kid...

/gotta go, got something in my eye
