Has anyone had problems with them trying to bill the deposits every month?

what do you mean bill the deposits? I've been getting my bill like regular.

Yes I had 2 late payments but the way I understood it is that they would bill me for my deposits once then the whole 2 late payments starts over.
Is that not right, if so do I get billed for the deposits for a whole year?

We wouldn't have ANY late payments if they would stop screwing with the billing date. It's hard when you have auto bill pay set up and then they change the billing date on you and your check doesn't get there in time.

They don't process their bills in a timely fashion either. I have to send my payment in days earlier than the due date so I'm not charged as being late (and I am never late on my bills).

I have had no problems, but I don't do auto-pay. I get the bill and pay on-line each month.

I know some of you are vehemently against it (for whatever reason), but ACH works GREAT!

I love it when people blame someone or something else for their own failures.

How is that his/her fault? I do the same thing. I get paid 2x a month, and it takes out on the same day every month. Works out great, but if they decided to move the bill date back even a few days earlier, then it woul be a problem if they didn't let me know.

Ease up buddy.

Is this auto-payment setup through the College STation utilities web-site? Or through a 3rd party not affiliated with CS Utilities?
Nom de Plume

They're using 3rd party bill pay, or whatever. If it was setup through CS there wouldn't be any problems.

The bottom line is either use ACH and quit worrying about it, or keep more or less manually paying your bills and start actually paying attention to the due dates. They can and do change, and not just at CS Utilities.

That's what I thought. I didn't think CS had an Auto pay feature.

Yep, whether you pay through Auto Pay or you write the check yourself, it's your responsibility to make sure it's paid on time.

Therefore, if it is late IT IS YOUR FAULT, not College STation Utility's fault.

This is not a difficult concept to grasp.

Been here since 1987 and have never had a late payment to CS Utilities.

We've talked about how many people don't know about CS ACH option before. I've used it for years. Most any vendor you deal with now has this otion and, IMO, it BTHO 3rd party bill pay. Some feel its invasive or are paranoid about it or something...I just like not worrying about it. And the money doesn't leave your account until the actual due date. We all have dozens of bills to pay every month -- why not simplify your processes as much as possible?

I get paid twice a month, 1st and 16th.

On the first I have received Phone, Gas, and Electric bills by then.

I then spend 5 minutes on the internet paying each one using their respective Pay Bill websites.

Bam! No late bill payments and then I don't have to try justify not accepting consequences for my actions, i.e. "be a victim".

They still snail-mail me my bill. I just use their on-line site to pay it, instead of mailing it in.

Is it just me or is this board becoming more like the general board?

You may not have noticed it but some businesses move the due date around to catch busy people and hit them with unexpected late fees (and/or build up a cash pile via deposits in this case). It's a nasty business practice and it's particularly nasty when it's done by someone that has a monopoly.

Blaming the consumer only addresses part of the problem and it's not particularly helpful. When it's done multiple times in the same thread it's down right annoying.

You get your bill in the mail with a due date.

What's difficult about this?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?

Everyone is busy. that's not an excuse.

Take responsibility for yourself, please.

I always got my bill in the mail and then dropped the payment off in the drop box.

A few months before moving out of CS though I did run into a problem. My bill never arrived in the mail (along with a check from my employer). I didn't even miss it until the past due notice arrived. If the same thing had happened with say my credit card which is due at teh same time each month +/- a day I would have caught it before it was due. They did waive the late fees, but didn't seem to buy my story.

I pay online every month and have never been late either. They have my info saved and it takes me all of about 30 seconds to complete the transaction.

A disagreement on this board does not equal the General Board.

Something as simple as remembering to pay an electric bill that comes every month should not be a problem for high school educated people.

They are not surprising anyone here.

It happens like clockwork, 12 times a year.

the way it happened to me is that i did not have to pay the deposit when i opened the utilities but when i failed to pay on time twice, they bill me the amount of my deposit for 3 cycles (1/3 of deposit for each month). the deal was that i wouldnt have to pay a deposit if i paid on time in that year.

but the good thing was is they credited the deposit back to my utilities once i told them i was moving out. I got a 17 dollar check when i shut off

I posted a thread about this when it happened - but eariler this year - I got a utility bill and I mailed off payment. The following month, I got a bill for 2 months. Apparently they didn't receive my payment.

This second bill came in on a Saturday afternoon.

The new bill gave me a deadline to pay it, however.

That Monday, I called at 10:30am (when I had time at work). When I called - I was told that they had already gone out to my home and shut off my utilities.

This was done on the same day I was having a sprinkler system put in. Great timing.

I raised a lot of hell on the phone and spoke with a couple of different people. I also went and paid the fee at the bank to stop that missing check that they apparently did not receive.

I paid this outstanding utility bill immediately over the phone with a credit card during my phone call, after I was finished complaining...

I pointed out to them 2 things... The 2nd bill gave me a due date to pay it by. Why did they come shut my utilities off prior to that deadline (I can understand their point of view - that they had a customer who did not pay their bill).

And 2 - what if I had a elderly person staying at my home... Someone hooked up to life supporting equipment. They basically came and shut my utilities off with NO prior notice. They claim they mailed me notice, but I do not believe it. When I made a thread about this matter - other people who suffered somewhat similar experiences with College Station Utilities also claimed that they never received notice that the utilities were going to be shut down either (before they actually were).

I know this is a college town, and I imagine that the utility company gets stuck with unpaid bills a lot. But this situation shows that they don't know what the heck they are doing down there.

I have a question?.Why is my meter being read so late?.My roomate and I talked to a meter reader a while ago and he said that they have fired a couple of people for stupid reasons, and the supervisor is taking days off to boot. thats why everything is being read late or wrong and the bills are being screwed up.Sounds to me like there needs to be some new management put in place.

when i was in school there, I paid online by CC everytime. I wrote down every confirmation number just in case. Believe me it came in handy once or twice.

i paid 2 days late, as always online by CC and wrote down the number. about a week later i get a letter saying that if i did not pay off the remaining balance (which is the amount i paid a week earlier), they would shut my lights off. i called customer service and told her the situation. i gave her the confirmation number and within 2 minutes the problem was resolved and she wiped out any fees that accumulated because of their error (which was almost thirty bucks)

in short: keep track of when you pay it and any check/confirmation numbers and all is good

I know I was late that was not my question my question was how long are they going to bill me the deposit. Finals are done so I am going by there tomorrow and I'll just ask them, since this turned into a pissing match when 91 showed up with who knows what shoved up his a**.
