Just noticed that the Bryan location shut down. Anyone know why? The CS locations won't shut down too, will they?

Because Shipley's Kolaches are better

I was about to defend Kolache Rolfs, but then I realized I've never had a kolache from Shipley's...

I seriously doubt the RP location will close anytime soon. They appear to be doing very well. I never visit the one by Copy Corner though.

Nooooo! I didn't know the Bryan location shut down, I love that place. Their kolaches are much better than Shipley's.

I would give anything for one right now. The Schlovachek (sp?) ones and the cream cheese are my favorite. Hmmmmm!

Saturday before the game, they will be mine.

A little too expensive for what you get in my humble opinion.

I think they were just in a bad location. It would have worked better on the Villa Maria side of that center, IMHO. The College Station location do so much business that I can't see them closing down anytime soon. BTW, I've had both and Kolache Rolf's are better. Plus, you can't get the real kolaches at Shipleys.

Where else can I get good Kolaches? I have found none that compare to the Kolache Kitchen in Temple.

What Shipley serves is good, but they're more like pigs-in-a-blanket than kolache.

I didn't even know there was a Kolache Rolf's in Bryan!

Kolaches do not have sausage, no matter what the store calls them

What are sausage kolaches supposed to be called then? I haven't ever been to a kolache place that didn't have meat in their kolaches.

I am talking about Kolaches (cherry, poppy, peach, etc) not "pigs in a blanket".
I've been to Caldwell, meh..

Best kolaches I have ever had. Their cinnamon rolls are wonderful also.

Kolache Rolf's next to Copy Corner has a long line every morning, and the line stretches around the buiding on Saturdays in the fall. every other time I go there, they are out of Slovacek kolaches. I don't think they're in danger of going out of business soon.

I guess Kolache Rolf's is just too sophisticated for Bryan.

This.

There are no meat kolaches. There are meat filled pastries called klobasneks, which use a similar "bread" but is typically filled with a piece of sausage. They are also sometimes made with ham and cheese, sausage and jalapeƱo.

Cstrickland05 - Out of curiosity, are you Czech?

I sure am. Not that it is that big of a deal, but it bugs the crap out of me when people call a pig in a blanket a kolache.

So even the square ones that are just like the fruit kolaches but with sausage in the indentation are not kolaches, either? I thought it was about the construction, not the filling.

I like the ones at Green's (I think) in that little town just this side of Temple. But I've never really had a "bad" one anywhere.

We know Rolf personally at Kolache Rolf's and we are addicted to his Slovacik Kolaches! His are the best & he also has the most fantastic coffee with flavor shots in the state of TX!! Much better and more financially prudent then Starbucks! Love them!

Izzy's Daylight Donuts on Boonville also serves kolaches using Slovacek sausage. They have regular but the jalapeno are the best. They recently started serving sausage wraps using a different type of Slovaceks BBQ link which is also good.

I dont even think what Shipleys sells can even be classified as a kolache, maybe a pig n blanket or better yet just a waste of money.
