From a few old Ags that live in BCS told me, Martin's is the only true BBQ place in town. I have eaten there and the ribs are really good (get there early if you want them. Once they sell out, they sell out). Service is a little bit slower, but definitely worth the wait.
I don't remember it being pricey at all. I think it was one of the cheap options when I was a student. We lived in those crappy apartments right there next to Pepe's so we ate Martin's and Pepe's a lot. Martin's is good and the atmosphere is great if you like that authentic old bbq experience.
Great food, slow service (but the server IS a 70 year old woman). The place is run down, but it's a historic landmark. Nice family and they've kept the business in the family this whole time. Not pricey at all.
When I was a kid, we used to buy bbq from an old black man in a screened in lean-to in the alley behind the local grocery store. It was the BEST bbq - still had the fat and all the smoke flavor. Martin's is the only bbq that I've found to come anywhere close to that flavor.
besides the good bbq, this is another reason i love it. it feels like a bbq joint should feel. everything has that nice smoke stained look to it. thats a badge of honor.
