Does anyone know of a reliable farrier in BCS?

I have one horse, just trims and he stands well. I have had 3 no-show farriers in the last 4 weeks, my poor horse needs his feet done badly!

I'm 3 miles north on Elmo Weedon.

Pam, I don't know who would be a good choice (Haven't had a horse in a few years), but I bet that Sam Wigington in the large animal clinic would.

Sam will only recommend one person, who I have used before and will never use again. I've gone that route in the past.

I am capable of trimming his feet, but that doesn't mean that I'm always willing to do it. Most of the time it's worth the $25 to have someone else do it.

Sure, but how many missed appointments is $25 worth? Unless you've got to do some weird shoe or the horse doesn't stand well, it's just one of those things that it's better to do yourself -- like washing a car/truck or mowing a lawn. You also get the ability to keep an eye out for things that just aren't quite right as you work on things. The Ex always did it herself after a farrier failed to identify a thorn that turned into an abscess until well after the abscess formed and the horse wasn't putting any weight on the foot.

... of course, my experience is also limited. I'm a computer nerd city kid that moved to Texas and got countrified hard and fast. She did say I have a purty mouth though.

Only person to touch my horses feet is Jay Nesemier. I know him personally and he is great guy and has skill.

My wife uses Don Sustaire for her old guys. He is always reliable and never stands us up. He can be a little gruff and hard to deal with but does a great job. He also comes out to the barn that you are describing. She has used alot of farriers but after a really bad shoeing job the vet school hooked her up with him. Most people there use Mike Green. He comes out and doesn't mind usually taking on more horses when he comes.

Mike Green is my father-in-law and does a great job! Really sweet guy too - if I remember right he does or used to shoe the horses for the Catalena Cowgirls!

I couldnt get Mike to return my calls, I'd love to use him as he already does several horses out there.

I'll try some of the ones listed here, maybe I can find one that works out for me and my horse.

I highly recommend Cade Shepard. He has been taking care of my horse for 4-5 years now. He always calls the night before he intends to come to the barn. He is really great about letting me know if there is anything to be concerned about or if there is something I need to watch for. I really can't say enough good things about him - he's great.
