i saw the thread about the only driving range left in town, it doesn't seem like a reliable option. i didn't see any golf lessons in the parks & rec calendar. can anyone recommend a place for their lessons?

You can get golf lessons at either country club without being a member.
Rick Kahlich is the golf pro at the A&M course and is great to work with. You don't have to be a student or staff, just be sure you register your car so that the wonderful parking people don't ticket you.

I would try the pro shop at Briarcrest. They are good. The other country club pros probably give lessons to non-members, also.

I had a co-worker give a good recommendation about the pro at Pebble Creek he gives lessons to non-members.

When my hubby used to golf a lot, he really liked the staff at Pecan Lakes. We were going to get me golf lessons there before I had knee surgery, but it didn't really work out.

quote:
Anyone out there who may be the least bit interested in taking lessons please give me a call. My name is Chad Barrum and I am the Head Golf Professional @ Pecan Lakes Golf Club. I have been teaching the game for eleven years and have worked with every level of golfer from fellow professionals to beginners. Whenever someone asks me about lessons I respond the same way. I believe without exception that a golfer looking to invest in his or her game would benefit infinitely more from private instruction than any golf club they might purchase, but the player must realize that it is just that,... an investment. You must nurture it and remain patient and it will undoubtedly pay dividends!!
Please call and start yourself on the fast-track to improving.

All group and private instruction may be booked through the Golf Shop 936.870.3889

Chad at Pecan Lakes is excellent. Very good teacher and does so in a way that is easy to understand.

I second Rick Kahlich. He's really, really good!

The A&M golf course is one of the best kept secrets around.

You will have to call them for pricing.
I think they each have a per lesson fee, but will knock a little off if you buy 3 at one time.
Also check how long each lesson will last.

You can come take lessons out at A&M. Some of the best staff around. I know them all pretty well. Jim Baetge was the teaching pro at Briacrest, Tim Thelan was the Southern PGA player of the year, Rene was a PGA player and played in the US open, Kyla and Jonathan are good assistants. I believe they only charge $50 and hour as well.

As a PGA Professional, I can tell you that you can't go wrong with any of the instructors listed above. They all know the swing and how to teach it. One of the most important things is to find an instructor that communicates with you well. The rates are about the same for everyone (we are all $50.00 per hour at Traditions - I offer a series discount). Call around to each of the pros and judge for yourself who communicates best with you.

I took up golf because at least I get to hit golf balls, just a good thing they don't charge by the stoke.
