We currently have Suddenlink Cable Internet and get about 50% connectivity at night and on weekends due to the sheer number of users sucking up the bandwidth. I've reached the end of my patience and am ready to make a change.

Does anyone have good numbers/data or anecdotal evidence on Suddenlink vs Verizon DSL vs Earthlink DSL in B/CS? I'm really looking for how reliable the connections are. I have a 10 year old Earthlink account that I've kept to maintain a consistent email address over the years, so that's why I'm considering Earthlink DSL and would love info on their DSL service.

I've got Verizon DSL and have no complaints.

On the other hand my Cingular/ATT wireless cellular card is going in the trash as soon as the contract is up in May. It's worthless around here-I guess we aren't a "major metro" yet in B/CS.

I live in south CS and use Suddenlink. I have 8mbit down and 500kbit up. It's always that way, no degradation in service. You just live in a crappy area.

Same as barstool.

Connectivity is still very dependent on your location. Its a crapshoot. Good luck.

I have verizon, like it. I've never had a slow down in service. That makes me think you're not running DSL or other users are connected through ur wireless modem, that'd be the only thing that should slow a direct dsl line down.

Suddenlink is cable internet. Slow as molasses where I live. What's worse, our house is only 1/4mile from the Suddenlink office. I have coworkers (who live in different parts of the area) that have Suddenlink also, and they say they have the same issues as me.

Actually, it's only been really bad for a few months. We've been in this house for over 4 years and only last Summer/Fall did the serious congestion start.

Of course, every time I call, they want to blame it on a local setting on my computer.

Distance from the CO greatly impacts DSL speed.

We have Verizon & haven't had any problems, slow or otherwise.

When you're on cable, you're sharing a "pipe" to the cable company. The more people congesting that pipe, the slower your dl/ul speeds are going to be - period. When you're on DSL, as I understand it, you have a somewhat direct line to the telco.

Blame it on all the students coming back and downloading porn/movies/albums/what-have-you.

Distance effects DSL speed? I guess that makes sense, singals have to travel further. I would say dump the cable, and get verzion DSL. When Cox was still here 3 year ago I had cable and it would disconnect me quite a bit and I;'m in the South part of town (Deacon) now that I have DSL no problems at all.

I know there are some naysayers on this board, but you can't compare Cox from years ago with Suddenlink today. Shortly before Cox sold they spent many millions upgrading their infrastructure which improved their service dramatically in this area.

I got the super pack with Verizon about a week ago and have had no troubles.

Fast as lighting.

I have had Verizon for years now and it has always been rock solid. DirectTV and DSL is the way to go.

Verizon is bringing FIOS to the area (fiber optic) to individual homes. If you don't like your cable/DSL options, see if FIOS is avail. in your area!

They've been bringing FIOS for 3 or more years. Is it available here? How available is it?

We have the cheapest DSL that Verizon offers ($14.95/mth when we signed up) and have no complaints.
