How long do you want to ignore this user?
I am 23 but still have the vertical drivers license. Mine doesn't expire until 2009. I went to a bar in Austin on the 29th. The door guy said the TABC has a new rule starting 1/1/2008 they can't take the vertical DLs anymore. Can anyone confirm this or did he not know what he was talking about?

UHH I hope this is not the case as I am 22 and mine does not expire until 2009.

I hope it isn't the case too, cause I'm 23 also, mine doesn't expire yet. I hate waiting in line at the DPS office, and yes I have to wait in line, I have a class B-exempt no online renewal.
here is a link to the TABC new amenendments and laws added in 2007
I don't see anything about it, but maybe one of the peace officers on here can give some info.

I have a Class B Commercial Drivers License. Any commercial license can not be renewed online, to my knowledge. I asked DPS about it once, apparently they want to see our faces every time and do an eye test. I see no reason why a bar would not accept the vertical license, other than liability reasons. Just easier to say, No Vertical License. If the State or TABC didn't like the vertical license maybe they should talk to DPS.

I'm thinking the door guy was just being a jerk.

The new TABC regulations generally start on Sept. 1 (as do the most laws...though not all). I checked http://www.tabc.state.tx.us/leginfo/code/80th/AllTitles.PDF and didn't see anything.

He wasn't being a jerk about it, he just said starting Jan. 1 they couldn't take them anymore. He let us in without any problems. I know he specifically said TABC was making them do it. This was at Midnight Rodeo in Austin. It does seem like there is a misunderstanding by somebody though.

Well I just wanted to know if I needed to get a new license or not. I guess I'll just hold off unless I hear anything else about this.

Class B exempt is the same things a commerical class B, but I can only drive governmental vehicles that require a class B, or at that least that is how the lady at the DPS explained it to me.

The bar may not want to take the vertical liscenses anymore due to the confusion of different styles (horizontal/vertical) the HEB stores around B/CS dont except out of state liscenses anymore for alcohol purchases and they are supposedly state issued. I know when I turned 21 my liscense expired on my B-day as did my brothers and my wifes. If you want to avoid any problems just go down and get a new liscense. Problem solved

If you want to avoid any spelling mistakes, just use spell check!

Why should we have to go pay for a new license when the ones we have are perfectly valid?
