What is the deal with the price of corn right now? The cheapest I could find it by our lease was around 7.50 a bag. It would be cheaper to buy it and haul it to the lease. Even the reduced gas milage for 200 miles would be cheaper than spending $300 to fill all the feeders. I realize that during the season (post harvest and greater supply) will lower the prices somewhat but probably only $1 to $1.50 per bag.

Is the increase in demand due to the amount of ethanol production have that much of an impact?

Anyone else notice this? If so, where in TX are you buying and what are the prices?

We get ours at Producers in Bryan and unless I haven't been paying attention it is considerably cheaper than that. It has gone up significantly in the last few years but not that high. I want to say we're well under 6 bucks.

I just buy the 40lb bags at Academy for less than $5 and live with it.

Academy at I-10 and Campbell had it on Friday for about 5.50 a bag if I remember right. It seems that Bass Pro had it for that much too.

The increase in price is getting ridiculous. Especially when you buy protein with the corn. I bet our corn bill on our property has increased 25-40 percent this year.

Do what I do:

Let the deer eat acorns and natural browse, then hunt them where they are in the fall.

Yeah, I just buy mine from Academy too. $4.99/40lb bag.

$4 something a bag (50 lb) at Co-op in Bryan with a membership.

I saw some at the hardware store in schulenburg for 5.99 the other day.

$4.95 per 50 lbs bag in Sulphur Springs in Northeast Texas.

$5.50 a bag in Uvalde Saturday.

4.65 at wally world.

there is a special at bass pro next sunday and monday. if you buy a feeder, you get 10 bags at 2.88.

Get a trailer and buy in bulk from a feed store. Geez.

By the way the mos trecent invoice I saw on the floor of my truck appears to say $4.45 per.

FYI Corn is quite high this year, but I'm not sure how it affects 50lb bag purchases. I'd assume you could get it much cheaper from a feed mill / coop than those other places. Deer corn is no different than bulk corn. AC, what the FIL does with his hunters is require them to fill his feeders when they fill theirs.

Because of ethanol, corn price has skyrocketed. That's led to increase in corn production and fertilizer. Anybody who bought fertilizer for wheat, sudan, or bermuda has already felt the bite.

freakin ethanol, if you arent drinking it don't use it. It takes just as much oil to produce it than it saves with Carbon emmisions.

But in lighter news, I went fishing in Rockport and the crew I was with all limited out in 1.5 hours on reds. 18 of them to be exact!

And it won't get any cheaper from here on out.

I wouldn't doubt that corn may go as high as 8-10/bag within a year or so, if corn production doesn't increase.

On the other hand, it does create some incentive for some farmers to start growing corn, being that they will now get more for their crops.
