Anyone ever done this? I have two clients coming from out of state in October and they want to have their meat processed here and shipped back. I use Taylor Meat market and they said they could not do it.

Anyone ever done this or know of it being done?

Thanks

I just had this question asked of me a few days ago. Guy wants to buy a couple of hunts from us but drives a Taurus and has no access to a truck. I told him I would look into it.

Maybe a seasonal business opportunity here???

I guess they can't freeze it hard enough. There used to be a place in bryan that specialized in shipping wild meats like that but they've been gone for a while. So basically what I'm saying is "I got nothin'".

omaha steaks ships overnight in styrofoam using dry ice. that should work.

Ask Taylor's if the issue is legal or practical. Dry ice and styrofoam would take care of the later.

of course you can do this, just like Omaha Steaks does as another poster said.

Flash freeze the meat if you can, but at least get it frozen solid. Ship it in an ice chest with 5 lbs or less of dry ice. You can mix some gel ice in there if you wish but not necessary.

The styrofoam ice chests used by Omaha Steaks are good but not guaranteed by UPS if one breaks. Its just as good to use a small plastic ice chest and the cost is about the same. I would guess the plastic ones may not hold in the cold quite as well.

Check the transit time. Make sure the recipient receives it in 3 days or less. Take your package to any UPS Store. Also better to ship the whole thing inside a cardboard shipping box if possible.

I don't believe that you can ship using dry ice.

Just freeze it solid and put those freezer alcohol packs in there.

How do Caribou hunters from Canada and Alaska get their meat back?

This wheel has already been invented.

I have shipped hard frozen meat by Greyhound bus before with no problems.

I live in Alaska and I ship meat back to Texas for my parent all the time. All you need to do is freeze the meat until they are solid flash freezing is the fastest but if you do not have access to a flash freezer leave the meat in your freezer for about 3 days. A regular cooler works fine fill the cooler with meat dry ice is necessary to ship as long as the cooler is full. Make sure and tape the lid of the cooler down tight I usually user FedEx overnight because they are the only one that it will guaranty to get to Texas from Alaska next day. Also I just shipped a cooler full of salmon to my parent yesterday that weighted 58 lb and it cost 187.50.

I shot an Axis at X-mas and had to head back to AZ before the deer was processed. My folks had the processor pack it in a 2 in. styrofoam cooler in dry-ice and shipped 70 lbs or so to me on Greyhound. I know some companies will ship meat on Bus routes since the freight is cheaper. 16 hour bus ride from Kerrville to Tucson and that dry ice would have lasted quite a while longer. Shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like it won't be a problem.

I've brough fish back from Alaska to Texas many, many times but I always used five day coolers and those things are expensive. Looks like a cheap cooler with some dry ice should make it to Omaha from the Hill Country no problem.

you may be able to tell what I do for a living by my previous post. 5 lbs is UPS limit per box for dry ice. I dont know how they would actually know if you used more... it evaporates anyway!

A customer gave me a couple of shipping ice chests from "STOCKYARDS" in Chicago, "Worlds Finest Steaks and Chops". I had never heard of them. These chests are 16" cubed and have a cardboard box that fits around them. I had never heard of that company.
