My friends and I will be making a catfishing trip to Conroe in a few weeks. I normally fish rivers but I have started to fish lakes as well. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips on the best tackle/bait to use or some of the better spots to fish.

Tie off to the 1097 bridge, and bait the hole with some range cubes from a ranch store, or maybe some scattered corn or something else that stinks but doesn't make a full meal.

you can also go up one of the creeks on the upper side of the lake, and stay in the main creek channel until you near some of the stump fields and do the same thing in the stump fields adjacent to the creek channels.

Either way, any stinky catfish type bait will work. conroe channel cats are easy. Peeled shrimp, chicken livers, whatever..it will work.

Can you tie a jug line underneath or around the 1097 bridge?

Might take a little too long to work for this guy's weekend Mouth. Of course, if you're planning to come on in and clean up on his leftovers a few days after...I like where youre heads at

Guadalupe--You should buy Doc Chumley's at Academy, or the corn Mouth mentioned, or dogfood. That will get them in your area somewhat quick. Then get after some chicken liver or doughbait.

I'm going to make some soap and buy chicken livers for during the day. Is there any place in Conroe where I can buy live bait(perch, goldfish, etc.)for baiting out at night. Also, are trot lines legal out there.

Lots of bait places, but most of them are a little off the beaten path, or will only have shiners, maybe goldfish too. April Sound will have shiners at least. The Gander Mt in Spring also sells bait, for catfishing and live minnows/shiners/golds.

And you can use trots and jug lines, they are OK...
