I was reccomended to Bill Wiseman here in College Station for custom gun work. Do any of you have knowledge of Bill's work? I hear he does his own barrel work as well.

I've called him for a price on some work. He wanted $75 and the other guy i called (can't remember a name right now) also in town wanted $35 for the same work. I don't know if that is a reflection on his prices or not. Either way I hear he does good work.

He did a trigger job on a couple of rifles for me, one of which was a difficult job (Marlin rimfire) that others turned away because they said they said they could not do it.

I'm very happy with his work.

I used to work for him. Holler if I can answer your questions. By the way, he supported the assault rifle ban back in the 90's.

lostboy - several years ago my cousin, also an Ag, had him build him a custom rifle in Rem 300 ultra mag.

I can only speak to the performance of the rifle which is simply astonishing.

I came across a Remington 700 LSS Mountain Rifle stock in mint condition for a steal of a price. I'm trying to put together a custom .270 before the season rolls around. The stock is amazing and can't wait to get the project rolling. Just have to find that SS 700 action! Looks as though I might have to bite the bullet and go purchase a Rem rifle and part out the stock/barrel.

I have a Bill Wiseman Custom rifle in 340 Weatherby Magnum and I love it. The quality of the gun is amazing and if you can hold it, it will shoot 1/2 inch at 100 yards. Due to the bullet size, there is almost one hole on the target. I've shot Bear, Caribou & Elk and it performs perfectly. It is built on a Sako action with a 26" barrel and a muzzle break. It's not my every day deer rifle because of the caliber but it is a great rifle.

I didn't realize I've been on texags this long! Bill was a strange fellow, but made quality rifles. So much water under the bridge since then!

Bill is the best. He makes and has made all the test barrels for most of the major ammunition manufacturers in the U.S. for at least 30 years. Do I need to say anything else. He is a savant. Known him for 20 years and has made many rifles for our family. If you can get him to do one for you I think you will be quite pleased.
