I have a water resistant jacket that was pretty much drenched with diesel. The wife has tried soaking it in Oxyclean and washing it with different detergents.

Result-Still smells strongly of diesel.

Any help would be appreciated. If I can't get the smell out, it is getting donated to the clothing drop off box at the local Wal-Mart.

Put at least a cup of vinegar in the rinse....may have to do it a couple of times.

I've been covered head to toe in diesel. It will come out eventually. Just wash it a few times. You can let it dry outside, which will help. I also left my coveralls outside a day or two inbetween washings.

It won't get the smell out, but you won't notice it anymore.

Try usind=g cascade, the dishwasher soap. Works good on oil.

I would just wash it with a good detergent as state above, then put it on a clothesline for several windy sunny days. I have done this with several jackets and coveralls; it doesnt go away 100% but it will make it much better.

Wash it with your regular detergent, but put a healthy scoop of GOJO type hand cleaner (without pumice) in the wash.

Sunchaser knows stuff....I'm sure a lot of these will work. If you are just going to hang it outside... soak it for a while in a mixture of vinegar & water before letting it airdry...if that dorsn't work after two tries I'll pay for the vinegar.

Go to Sams Club/Costco. Buy 2 large containers of Pace or other tomato based product. Place jacket in a wash tub (or other similar vessel) and pour sauce all in and around. Let soak all day in cool place. You may have to repeat. This solution was given to me by an old timer when my lab and a skunk went at it. It worked.

my bro-in-law runs a diesel filtration service, so he's always got that faint aroma.

My sister uses gobs of Febreze before and after the dryer on his clothes. She says it does the job better than anything she's tried.

mix oil, water, baking soda, corn meal, & tide works like a charm. Or like a swimming pool on the hottest day in the middle of Juuuuuuly.

Gojo will do the trick. We farmers keep a huge jug of that in our truck when messing with diesel or packing bearings with grease. Works as good as anything.

We use good old Coca Cola in the wash to take out oil based drilling mud both the stain and the smell. Just use about 1 quart per wash and it should come out. This with a small amount of Tide usually gets our rig clothes clean and smelling good.
