These are pictures of a opossum who met a bad ending. They were taken at the house of a guy I work with in Harker Heights, TX. They are not fake. They are not staged. The opossum was found this way. The opossum climbed down a fence and became......stuck.

These are REAL!!!

The opossum stuck on the fence:

This is how he was stuck on the fence:

...those are what you think they are.....

Thanks for sharing. It is amazing how some of these creatures meet their demise.

Good to see one of those nasty oversized rats die a painful death.

Possums are immune to snake venom, and actually eat copperheads and rattlesnakes.

I don't like to see any animal suffer. I guess I'm getting soft as I get older, but I wouldn't wish that on any living thing. Possums may not be the smartest animal in the world, but they serve a useful purpose in nature. The only reason we see them in our neighborhoods is b/c their natural habitat is being taken by developers. Don't blame the possums.

I've shot my share of skunks in the wild, but I've let more than a few walk, too, lately. I just don't get any joy out of killing animals that really aren't doing any harm and going about their daily routine.

Coyotes - that's a different story, but I still don't enjoy it - it's more like a duty and responsibility to protect the deer/turkeys/rabbits.

For the record, I hate possums. But I ran over one a few months back and it really disturbed me. That whole THUMPTHUMP as you feel it hitting the undercarriage of the car made me cringe.

When I got where I was going, I told someone about it and wondered why that disturbed me, but shooting a beautiful buck the previous day did not. Guess it's the difference between accidentally killing something and hunting, particularly if you eat what you kill.

Gotta keep the deer/turkeys/rabbits safe so we can kill them for recreation.

Would this qualify for a Darwin? Never thought I would feel sorry for a possum, but that is one sheety way to go!

Maybe the fact that I am a developer is the reason I laughed, but does anyone else find this comment a little silly? I've dealt with golden-cheeked warbler, salamander, cave beetle and other creature lovers, but "opossum habitat" is a new one for me.

I just thought it was funny...

I'm not saying to blame the developers either, but just don't take it out on the possums b/c they're looking for a new home and finding food in your back yard out of convenience. Yeah, as stated, it was a little silly, and I'm the one that said it.

I don't know if it's silly. I don't think he's typing with one hand and huggin a tree with the other.

I don't think it's the possum's fault, I don't think it's the developer's fault. It simply is what it is. If they can adapt, great. If not, the way of the dodo it goes.

I personally like possums. About the worst I've seen them do is dig in trash. They don't destroy yards like armadillos. I like having a little bit of nature roaming my neigborhood. My kids LOVE to see them at night. They are dumb as rocks and move pretty slow, so they aren't a threat. Just cooly cruise around not bothering a whole lot. (I'll probably see 10 posts now about how a pack of possums killed their dog and stole their car)

I do hate to see anything go like the one in the pics. Nothing deserves that, except someone who hurt my kids or Osama.

Eh, I don't mind 'em. For the most part, they're pretty docile, but that doesn't mean I want them poking around in my yard and playing with my dogs. I've got a no-kill trap and, as long as the critters aren't overly aggressive, I'll just take them out to the country and let them go.

I have had to dispense of one the hard way, though. It was huge (bigger than my MIL's lap dog) and mean. It'd sit on their fence at night and hiss/growl at her and her dog as they went about their business. If I was there, I'd grab a shovel and knock it back into the creek on the other side of their yard, hoping it would learn it's lesson. One day I happened to be there when it made an aggressive move towards the MIL, so I grabbed a shovel, pulled the possum off of the fence and into the yard, and proceeded to kill it. That was a pretty tough thing to do - I'd never beaten anything to death before that and never want to, again. Worst part was the fact that "playing 'possum" is what possums do best and I wanted to make sure and finish the job, so I had to keep swinging until it was a pulpy mass. Ugh...

Yeah, I used to shoot em on site before I found out about the snake thing. I live out in the country and I killed 5 copperheads this past summer, and with a 7 year old and a 3 year old running around it kind of freaks me out. One of them I killed in my garage while my girls were out there.

Good grief, I just noticed it was not his tail that got caught in the fence. that's terrible.

no animal deserves that, but still, yes to anyone who hurts my kids.

My buddy was afraid he was going to have to cut it down. He said he just grabbed it by the tail and slid it right back up the fence. And then took a crap lot of pictures.
