Anyone fish the bay out of Clear Lake? My BIL has our boat in a slip at the yacht club down there, and I am looking for any suggestions on where to run to. Thanks.

I don't know if these are any good but a list of GPS "hot spots" for $25 doesn't seem like that big of a gamble if you are going to be there for a while.

I don't know anything much IN Clear Lake, but drifting the kemah/seabrook flats, Redfish Island/Todd's dump area, Dollar Flats (off the Texas City levee) are all popular places. Get one of those good maps and you'll see them.

Thanks Finch! I am a lot more comfortable going out of Port O so this is a new deal for me. I hope the ride is not to long.. And by the way, we took a test run last week in clear lake, and I have never seen a bigger group of not knowing how to drive boaters in my life! Makes Travis look down right safe.

Clear lake is definatly more for "recreational use" I've heard it can come into its own at times and u can have surprising success a spitting distance from my house, I have no idea how to fish it though.

I was down in Seabrook last week. It sure has changed from there to Kemah since I had last been that way. When needed, we used to be able to fill a garbage can with blue crab before the sun got hot across the street from grandma's house in Seabrook. The never ending supply of grandma's stuffed crab, slightly overcooked shrimp and too strong iced tea kept us from fishing that part of the world.

I'll no longer complain about Austin drivers after doing the drive between Seabrook and Galveston a few times last week.

The spoil banks along the ship channel are very productive in the summertime with live bait. Also, Redfish Island and Todd's Dump can be good. I live in Clear Lake Shores and have been fishing here for years with my boat. I will go with ya'll and show you some stuff if you want.

The spoil banks are a good suggestion. It also isn't too bad of a run up to Atkinson Island or some of the oyster reefs around Trinity Bay and/or Smith Point. When it is cooler, the Bayport Channel and the HL&P spillways can be great as well. You are absolutely correct about the boat traffic in Clear Lake though. Unless he is dead set on keeping the boat at Clear Lake, I would consider talking him into putting it down at Galveston. I have mine in a dry storage facility at the Galveston Yacht Basin. I call them up and tell them to put it in the water the night before and can drive up, load the gear and bait, and can be on the Gulf side of the North Jetty within 30 minutes of leaving the dock in the morning. You have alot more options fishing out of Galveston than you do out of Clear Lake, and the time difference driving there is pretty much offset by having a shorter ride to better fishing spots from the dock.
