The "power cat" brand was made in the early to mid 60's. There was a plant building them in Victoria, Texas. After the factory burned down, the catamaran style hull was not built again. When the factory reopened only tri-hulls were built. I have looked on e-bay with no luck.

I got one behind the barn, and I ain't ****tin you. Hadn't been in the water for a few years. Got a 135 Johnson on it that with a little work would probably still run. The transom is probably rotten by now, it was on its last leg the last time we had it out. It was a water skiing machine, no wake and was easy to plane out. My Dad bought it back in the early 70's, an 18 footer I'm guessing, with the catamaran hull. Wow, you just turned back the time on me. Why are you interested in Power Cats?

You just answered your own question. That thing rides high on the water and does not jar your teeth out when you hit a wave. Also it is a unique design. The power cat had a 150 HP rating. That was amazing for a 14' boat. I wish they still built those things. Just seeing if any were still around for sale.

A few years after the plant burned down, Ray Leger sold out to another company and the named was changed to Power Cat of Texas.

They continued the high quality on the boats but the market changed with the tri-hull becoming popular and they went broke.

Danny Leger, Ray's son, still lives in Austin and is a wealth of knowledge about the old boats.

Check out fiberglassics.com. They have a great forum and someone there surely can help you find one.

There was a South African company who made a cat known as a "Thunderduck" ... I believe it was a RIB boat (Rigid Inflatable Boat).

The original importer is making a new catamaran RIB for salvage/police/special forces/rescue operations (we've already supplied components for his prototype, which is working great.) It is a 17' RIB and somewhat pricy, but when I say fast, I mean fast. 180 mile range on around 30 gallons of fuel. Dumpable water ballast for low speed stability. 50+ knots with a single 90 HP E-Tec. It looks like its going to be a great boat.

Plans are in the works for a smaller 13' version as an up-scale yacht tender.
