An adult male pheasant crossed Highway 21 (strutting) in front of me at 6pm Thursday. It was about 1 1/2 miles west of Old Dime Box.

This is the first pheasant I have seen while driving this area in over 20 years.

Could this be a domesticated, pen-raised fowl that escaped? It was a healthy looking bird.

Her's hoping they get well established. No more trips to snowy southern KS!

there are a lot of pro field trialers that train dogs in that area. It probably got loose from that.

"Colt" is right. If there are any bird dog people around that's your source.

Yep it was a bird that was cut loose. No natural birds around here. Unfortunately.

There are several high fenced ranches that feature canned hunts in central Texas area. They have pen-raised pheasants and quail and exotics. The pheasants don't have sustaining population like the Panhandle.

One of the larger hunts invites all the Texas senators/reps from Washington, all state reps from Austin, and lots of bigwigs in hunting industry. Basically a perk/lobby trip for these guys. Wear your body armor, most of these guys are imbeciles.

Heck, if I had known he wuz an escapee, I would have gunned him down....

Now he leads a short, but lonely, life until some predator gets him.

Obviously, Whittington doesn't read my posts on Texags. Should have, it would have saved him some trouble.
