Looking for reliable 300 lb feeder. Would like to stay ~$400-$450 range. Manufacture recommendations?

Thanks.

Look at the EZ feeder, made by All Seasons, at Buc-ee's. It's 600lbs but it it's in your budget.

Can DIY a 55 gallon broadcast for $150, or less, and have budget left to fill it.

I have a Treeline gravity fed free choice feeder from Tractor Supply that is really well made. They have rebranded their Treeline feeders as "Field and Stream" and there is a 350 lb stand and fill broadcast feeder for $450 that seems to have good reviews. I like that the solar panel comes pre-mounted on top, the battery and wiring is all internal, and the thrower plate is spring loaded to prevent varmints from digging feed out around it. If I were looking for a broadcast feeder, I would give it a try.

I took Gunny's advice. Bought a Texas Wildlife Supply. 600#. It's fantastic. They also make a 300# now that's not yet on the website. But, this is quality stuff, and I could not be happier after dealing with cheaper ones.

I have three of the ASF Barrel Buddies. Takes a little time, but easy to put together; heavy-gauge welded metal. Reliable timer and 12 volt motor. ASF also has excellent customer service.

Bought some barrels with the snap-ring from FB Marketplace, solar panels from Amazon, internal funnels from Academy, and electrical conduit to protect the solar panel wire.

They claim they are raccoon-proof, but I think a really big raccoon can get a front leg in to maybe reach the spinner.

I added the ASF varmint proof spinner. They have a new design with spring loaded gates that has a lower profile than the eliminator plate spinners and will fit in the gap of the Barrel Buddy.

300# feeder for around $300.

These actually look pretty good for the money, but reading the reviews, I would be a little skeptical of the motor and be prepared to replace it. I made the mistake of buying one of the Moultre Ranch series feeders and didn't check the motor. Well built feeder, but the motor was really weak. They have changed the design of the ranch series but I bet the motor is the same. It's 12-volt, but it is the size of the smaller 6-volt motors. It was not strong enough to spin the eliminator plate I added so I wouldn't have to use a cage. I upgraded the motor.

I bought this guy earlier this year. Its been successful at keeping the coons from spinning the disk and has kept the corn dry so far. Easily assembled and sturdy. Plus the low boy version can be loaded from the ground, no need for a ladder. I've been happy thus far.

Never heard of tbis outfit but tbis popped up on my feed:

Their barrel kit is very reasonably priced as is their 500 lb feeder. I will definitely be giving them a look in the offseason.

I've seen these in person at an authorized dealer in Dallas. Looks very well made and solid. He makes these locally and has had production issues in the past. I was interested in the barrel kit, but it was always out of stock. Could be different now.

After years and years of the usual issues people run into, I started building my own out of a barrel. Haven't had a coon destroy a panel, spin the plate, or otherwise destroy anything since. I even install a remote for each. Slightly more expensive this way but I save a bunch of money in the long run.

I have had two of those for a few years now, never any problems with coons or squirrels. I love the fact that I can just walk up and fill it, I am never going back to the taller type.

To get a good feeder in that capacity range, you will spend closer to $1,000. However, those feeders generally come with a solar panel and are damned near bullet proof. Yes, you can buy junk for $3-400. However, I would not count on a feeder you will be pleased with after one season of use.

Just make sure to seal the hole going into the motor with mouse shield. Cant tell you how many wires and motors I have replaced on them because of that dang hole between the shield and the housing. Rats in Webb county love making a house in it.

Now you should consider doing the fun mods.

Spray paint it (dark green or brown) so that your cam flash won't reflect off of it.

Also, bolt a crossmember onto each of the two leg gaps to keep hogs from getting under it.

ASF offers an undermount trade out that will allow for an Eliminator spin plate. I've got one and it's been great.

The Remote. Always get the Remote or upgrade to the WiFi timer that has the remote built in. Just make sure you upgrade your solar panel size if you do…
