Anyone have a good way to remove dirt dauber nest from stained cedar beams? I knocked the nest down but trying to get the rest down without scratching everything up.

TIA

We have them all over the front of our house and the porch is all beams and wood with rock….and cathedral ceiling.
I use a plastic hard body puddy knife to knock the nest off. The remaining dirt I was off with a small pressure washer with a long wand.

That's what I'm thinking but then I have to end up cleaning the wood ceiling otherwise I'll have water spots everywhere. Might not be another option. I'm just being lazy!!

My dad use to put a little bit of vinegar in a gallon jug filled with water and use the soap injection hose to suck it in his pressure washer to keep from leaving water spots.
We have extremely soft water so I don't have the issue.
My neighbor uses a little bit of the water spot preventer his wife puts in their dishwasher the same way.
I've never tried either way..so don't know.

I used to power wash my limestone porch and stained cedar beams/posts once a year. 200' of porches, front and back, and it was an absolute chore. I eventually gave up. I still power wash occasionally, but I don't fret like I used to. I never could keep up.

An "old timer" told me a trick to keep them away...

I have a open end workshop and had them building nests everywhere.

Use a mint green paint for the ceiling and walls.

Not a single nest since doing that 3 years ago.

No doubt it works great but I'm not sure I could get my wife to go for a mint green patio!

My mom's ranch house covered porches gets them… knock them off with something and get the water hose with nozzle on them.. they wash off. Sometimes I spray them every 10-15 min or so, they eventually come down. Its just hardened mud, water is the answer

100% true. Even light blue works. Weird.

I heard that light blue works to keep birds from building nests. I have a few cross beams in my mint green shop near the apex of the ceiling with bird nests.

Painting ceilings and about 6 inches down the side walls absolutely works to prevent swallows from nesting, Theory is that they want protected areas, and the blue makes them think its open sky. I wonder if the same thing works on the wasps. The mint green is probably close enough to the sky color. Especially for critters that may not perceive colors the same way we do.
