Afternoon guys, my dad recently told me a story. I'm going to tell it here as context and entertainment. Ultimately however the point of my post is to request suggestions for a gunsmith in DFW area, ideally Arlington/Fort Worth.

When he was a kid, he was visiting his GrandDaddy and brought his bow to practice. Well his Grand Daddy tried it out and promptly broke it in half while pulling back on the string. As a way to repay him, he agreed to split the cost of a new shotgun with my dad.

So my dad goes out and gets a CBC model 151 single shot break open 12 gauge. All excited to shoot it, he goes out for his inaugural hunt with it, and the first trigger pull it goes click and nothing happens.

His dad digs into it and seems to think there is a problem with the firing pin. Makes several attempts at fixing it, unsuccessfully, and ultimately they end up putting the gun in the closet and there it's sat ever since.

I would love to be able to get it fixed and working and give it to him for Christmas. Do y'all have any suggestions of where I could take it to get checked out and fixed ? The action and barrel are spotless. It's never been fired and has lived its entire life indoors. Somewhere along the way the stock was cracked, so it will need a new stock as well.

With the action open, and lowering the hammer, is there any firing pin projection, past the breech face?
Removing the buttstock will reveal some of the "working parts", and likely one pin is holding the trigger and firing pin assembly in place.
I have made replacement firing pins from drill stock, for some other basic break-open firearms. Or Numrich Arms may have parts.

I don't live close to them, so my preference is to send it to someone to fix it. I don't have the time or patience for it at this time in life. Normally I'm definitely a diy tinker-er. Plus my grandfather was the epitome of fixing things himself, so the fact he couldn't get it working tells me it should be left to the professionals.

I bought an H&R (NEF), years ago that wouldn't fire. It had a transfer bar system (this prevents the hammer from pushing the firing pin forward, if you drop it), that was supposed to relay energy to the firing pin, when the hammer hit it (and trigger was back).

Well, the factory had left so much material on the top of the hammer, that it would hit the frame, before it could hit the transfer bar. I had to remove some material, before it would finally function.

Anyway, before sending it off, you ought to check if the firing protrudes from the breech face, when you pull the trigger and the hammer falls (keep trigger pulled back).

I know that you probably already know this, but what you'll spend to get it working is probably 2-3x what it's worth (but I realize it has sentimental value)…

I have used Cajun Gunsmith in Plano with great results. I know that is a little farther than you were looking but they do great work.
So the greatest civilization is one where all citizens are equally armed and can only be persuaded, never forced. It removes force from the equation... and that's why carrying a gun is a civilized act.
