What's the boards general opinion on Arken Optics? I'm considering a couple of them for a pretty high grade rifle. I'm not wanting to spend $1k on glass and my understanding is Arken has significant quality for the price.

Anyone have opinions?

Eyeguy? You out there?

Check out Texas Plinking on YouTube (if you haven't already). They sponsor his channel so of course he speaks highly of them, but informative segments about the optics nonetheless. Gives discount codes if it's the route you want to go.

i have one. i think they are good for the price but there is more of a difference between them and high end scopes than many of the paid youtube advocates let on. they are also heavy and the turrets are comically large. that said, i'll probably pick up their new cheap SFP option to throw on a low caliber beater gun.

Was just about to come here and say, it's friggin heavy. I am putting together a little 308 for hunting/"long range" and bought the 5x25. Glass is pretty good for what you pay, just depends on how well you know glass and if you can actually see the difference.

The new 2x12 they just came out with doesn't seem too bad

I think you hit the nail on the head for scopes in general, not just Arken.

The more you spend, the less compromises you have to make. The better the glass quality, the better the durability if its dropped or dinged, the better the design, how the turrets track, etc etc etc.

If I'm pushing a custom bolt gun with hand loaded ammo past 1000 yards, spending the money to make sure the scope isn't a limiting factor becomes worth spending a lot more money on.

If its a hunting rifle that gets carried between the atv and the stand and won't get pushed past 200, I could deal with weight and bigger turrets in exchange for costing less.

So my opinion for OP is: will a budget scope do what you want to accomplish with this rifle? If so, great. Snag the Arken.

We are in a time where even budget scopes are coming with some really great reticles and other features that they didn't use to offer at a budget price point. Just make sure whatever other compromise (weight, durability, glass quality) they made to meet that price point is an acceptable one to you.

Arkens are no where near as good as people who like them will tell you they are.

They're no where near as bad as people who dislike them will tell you they are either though.

They're an ok scope for what you pay after all their gimmicky discounts. If you go in expecting to get a scope that "punches above its price point" (wtf ever that means), or is on par with scopes 5 times its cost, you will either be disappointed or you will find other Arken lover to scratch your confirmation bias itch.

I would personally take a similar priced Vortex or Athlon over the Arken.

Fair question.

Christensen Ridgeline Scout in 308.

I currently have an Sig Tango LPVO but want to be able to swap to something with a little more glass for different applications. Investing in something decent but that won't break the bank for inside ~400 yards, and two sets of some quality QD, return to zero mounts for both scopes.

I don't need 1000 yard capability, I'm not doing that.

Some fair quality zoom for an elk we can't seem to get close to though? Yes.

Was looking at the new 2-12, as mentioned above, and for ~$50 more there's a 6-24 that caught my eye. They're the same weight. 1.48lbs.

That's sorta what I figured. Middle of the road but are they worth exploring vs other more establish brands? Idk. I appreciate your opinion though. Vortex is one I've considered too but they're a bit more than I care to spend for the configuration I want. That's what drew me to Arken. May have to spend it though, sounds like.

I have a used a Burris, a Vortex, and an Arken on my Ruger RPR. The Arken has been the best glass and was the middle priced of the three very close price wise to the Burris and the Vortex was a tad under double after Texas plinking Arken discounts. I am quicker on target with the Arken, can read the holds better on the Arken, and the Arken glass seems clearer to me. I have shot probably a dozen matches with each scope and the Arken matches I average nearly 100 points/match higher than than the other two.
Edit to add but it is a .22 caliber rifle so do with as you see fit.

If you buy an Arken, don't get the "extras" package they try to sell you.

I keep hearing about these upsells and gimicky accessories and having to use discounts…

The scope I'm looking at is $329 on amazon, $550 on the Arken site. Is that not the appropriate discount?

I have an Arken 4-16 on a 6mm arc upper. It is heavy, the reticle is MIL tree and a bit thicker center point than higher end scopes. BUT and a big BUT (and a smile!)

I am punching holes in paper, ringing steel or harvesting meat for the freezer and NOT protection POTUS or performing overwatch in the sandbox...so Arken, Athlon, Primary Arms, etc....are perfect for me. I get 75-80% of the performance of the higher end scopes at less than 50% the cost

For that application and rifle, I'd look at this. 2 models. One in moa and one in mil.

OP...if you do decide to go with Arken, I have a 4-16x44 FFP with VHR MIL reticle for I can part with. Give you a great price for it. Just don't use it currently as my distances I shoot don't need that much magnification.

Shoot me a message here and I will connect with you off TA to send you pics and what not!

The reputation Christensen got was very much early issues. They've refined their manufacturing significantly. Their customer service is still a little suspect but the quality issues are largely resolved. Not just my opinion but that of a very large gun shop in Houston with multiple locations, for whom they've been on the front lines of the Christensen QC issues from early on.

I miss Nikon scopes for pretty decent quality at an entry level price.
