Dolly Parton has passed away.

Married to her husband all those years. Probably found it difficult without him any more.

That's a really hard one. She was a bright light, and we don't have enough of those. The world is rougher around the edges without her sweetness, courage and light. Really tough loss that I'm not sure fans of today's "country" can truly comprehend.

She came from nothing--abject poverty, to become a songwriting and business powerhouse, never losing her self deprecating charm and never shirking the mountainous talent she clearly had. An icon no one could be mad at.

There aren't enough of those.

What a ridiculously well lived life! Her accomplishments as a musician and human will never be replicated. She was literally on black and white TV to begin her career. What a sad day.

A truly talented & an exceptionally kind person. The world has lost a little bit of light.

We're sad here in East Tennessee. She was a great ambassador for so many things.

So sad to lose Dolly.

RIP Dolly.

1965, I worked for parks&wildlife, as wildlife biologist near amarillo. did censuses early morning&evenings, each lunch watched kgnc Amarillo tv. they had Porter Waggoner and Dolly singing and selling black strap molasses. easy times back then.

"It costs a lot of money to look this cheap."

This was a coming of age moment in my childhood:

Dolly obviously did a million interviews over the years, but she started most of them with this quote, "You can ask me anything you want, and I'll tell you exactly what I want you to hear."

I love that quote.

I read that when she first moved to Nashville she didn't have a penny to her name, so she would walk hotel hallways and eat leftover room service.

She was an absolutely amazing human being. Pretty cool seeing all of the tributes from all over the world pouring out.
