Dark gelcoat colors have historically lent themselves to showing more scuffs, gouges and scratches. However, in last couple of years, gelcoat technology has really advanced and there are gelcoat products now available that hold their color really well…. and due to chemical properties and makeup, have much denser color pigmentation and don't show damage like the older finishes.
Understand these premium gelcoats cost much more and only premium boat brands even attempt to use them. They also take a lot more skill and talent to apply along with more advanced equipment to properly do the application processes.
With that being said a slightly off white gelcoat is still the easiest to maintain and repair if you damage it.
Albeit, they are boring and all look like hospital ships.
