Is anyone else dying to get out there? I need to scout our place. I would expect with the rain we had earlier in the year, bird numbers should be good this year.

It looks like TPWD is showing a 44% increase in dove numbers, almost matching the historical high. I am attempting to find the 2026-2027 season forecast, but failing today. I am going to be out there and ready for some fun!

What do we think the South Zone opener being moved up will do? I am excited to see what this season holds.

Is what I would say if I could fire one shot off at my mom's bird bath. They have been pretty thick around Frio county.

Opens on a Tuesday, we shall see if enough hunters are out, to possibly keep the birds moving.
Some goatweed is almost ready to go to seed, ahead of schedule.
Corn harvest is underway in Burleson county, sorghum still standing, at least where I see it.

I used to be that way before my Godmother passed, her land was sold and I lost my oasis in Austin. I used to have the run of a few hundred acres that now is cheap housing that has Slaughter and McKinney Falls running through it.

I shot one if the first white wings in that part of Texas in the early 90's and a Eurasian dove in the late 90's/early 2000.

I still enjoy going, but no longer can't sleep and start planning a week or two out.

They're flying thick as thieves up in North Texas.

Probably head to my buddy's place in Cisco on Sunday before opening day to do some chores then hopefully hunt there opening morning before heading on our annual trip to Coleman.

i haven't found any decent places to go up here in North TX and the public land around here is horrible. But I do have an afternoon hunt for 8 and a morning hunt for 8 reserved down in Dilley in late September with Dilley Dove.

It will be me, 3 buddies and 4 veterans from the veterans organization that I volunteer with. The outfitter said it's looking like a good year for the birds. He also said it's a record year for stickers.

Hunted with RockHouse Ridge last year and had a good time. Really nice setup.

Going back this year. 4 of us went home with about 120birds last year

Early rains were good for my native sunflowers-but also good for Johnson grass. Sprayed grass with Clethodim a few weeks ago and hope to mow strips this weekend. North of 10 so opener a couple weeks away. Hopefully I can get enough bare ground for the birds to be interested in the sunflower seeds. Last year grass was too thick-had tons of sunflower seeds but birds wouldn't come to field without bare ground.

Well...... not everywhere in north Texas. South of Gainesville, have millet planted for cattle graze, 60 acres of milo cut and bushhogged just east of me, corn cut north, 3 ponds around us, and while out spraying mesquite, saw 3 doves.

Yeah, i kinda sucks. Used to be able to go have good hunts when I was younger. Don't know what happened to change their flight patterns.

Hmmph. Go out this morning with the pups, looking out at the millet field, hoping to see maybe some doves flying in or out. Instead, probably 2 acres are covered in geese. Looks like the sxs is spending another season in the gun cabinet.

35% rain forecasted for Friday evening

Edit - ended up getting 1/2" in Frio county last night. As dry as it's been, it should all be soaked in by mid morning

If someone is charging less than $150 they prob don't have birds.

If they're charging less than $150 and they do have birds, jump all over it.
