What is the secret to finding them on old mature trees? I have a young tree up front that I noticed all the leaves gone and found multiple worms but could not harvest them because we were leaving the house for an appointment. Went back today and only found one. That one worm caught five bream in my little pond ( perfect for grandkids). I checked out all of my old mature trees and can't find a one. I need some primo bait to keep the grand kids interested (ages 2 and 5)

Seen very few in recent years. Rumor that they live in the soil beneath the tree and fire ants knocked them back and they are mostly gone.

Spray BT next time if you can get a sprayer to reach to the top. BT only kills caterpillars.

Catalpa worms prefer young trees. You really don't see them on mature trees very often.

With grandkids help start a worm farm. It's not Catalpa but kids will enjoy doing it.

Gotta keep cutting the trees back every few years to keep the worms around.
