Found a half eaten green tomato this morning. Thought of trapping the coons and hauling off, but didn't want to separate from them from the youngins. If it's an opossum, then a definite haul off.

Going to definitely pick the tomatos as soon as they turn, now, but what's the best way to deal with these varmits.
I'm in town so Ol' Betsy is out which royaly sucks. TIA

I could, but would have to go buy one. Plus, I have close neighbors. I don't think they care as long as I don't trap their cat and shoot it. I don't really care to shoot one (coon or opossum) in the trap at this point unless they really start to terrorize. I really just want to trap and haul off or deter them somehow..

Are you certain it's a coon or opossum. Could be a big ol pack rat.

Don't have squirrels do you? Just had to clean out 6 because they were eating all my dang peaches, green.

Have squirrels, but happens at night. Setting the trap now for that sob.

What he said. I put an arlo cam on mine last year. Huge fat rat pigging out. I caught him….and then six more in 10 days. Then I said screw it and pulled the tomatoes since they damaged most of them anyways. I had No idea they were that bad in my yard. Rat bait box stays full year around now. No issues this year.

I didn't say kill them… just pump the gun up enough to pepper them good, they will wise up and not come back

Live trap them and take them to a neighbors hood a few miles away.

I've been told all forms of pests are just looking for the water in them. Been suggested to put out a water bowl, and they will leave your tomatoes alone. Not sure if that is true. I built a big cage around my tomatoes to keep the squirrels from destroying every one of them.

This little Pogo has been wrecking havoc in my tomatoes.

Hope I catch his whole family.

Set mine light as a feather the other night and the sucker stole all the sardines anyway.

If you put sardines in you are bringing more critters to your garden

Put a very ripe tomotoe if that is what it is used to

Also I have read or been told you must take a raccon or possum 5 plus miles away and they will sie anyway because the area already has a dominant coon or possum and it will kill it

I use large Marshmallows. Hang one from a wire in the back of the cage. Best bait there is.

When peaches ripen, I can catch three raccoons a night if I keep it baited.

Thanks, I will ditch the sardines and try that next. He hasn't eaten anymore in two nights so maybe he doesn't like green tomatos much after all.

That's one picky possum.

Times must be good.

I really think it's a coon because I've seen them eating the bird seed at night.

What if you give them a bath in the lake in the cage and they don't swim as well as you thought?
