Alright Outdoors board, need y'all's help. I found out earlier this morning that a friend and mentor of mine for almost 20 years was robbed and run over by a car while trying sell something in a public parking lot. The perpetrators have evidently been arrested. The victims family took him off life support yesterday. This hit me hard today, I'm getting used to colleagues and friends dying of natural causes but this is wholly different; how can you expect someone you know to be murdered?

This happened within the last week, either in Dallas or Richardson. I've searched everywhere and can't find a single news story or entry on a crime blotter about it. What do y'all recommend? I'm just interested in getting answers as to what the hell happened. Details are scarce to me because this individual was extremely private (think Ron Swanson). I can share name, approximate age, etc in a separate post.

You will probably have a hard time finding out what happened beyond what you already know. Might be able to figure out who was arrested and what they were charged with.

Did his first name start with a "D"? Either way, I'm very sorry for your loss.

Appreciate the condolences...he went by Bob, his legal first name was Robert.

I'll keep looking. I thought I'd found a story but that was a different person.

He was in his late 60's, so the article linked above is about a different person. He was an interesting cat for sure -- kept lots of cash on his person at all times ("You never know when you'll see a gun you want to buy!") and did all kinds of cash-only deals. Unfortunately this is what did him in.

So many memories of my early career days with him -- he was a brilliant engineer and I was his eyes and ears in the field for the first 3-4 years of my career. He also had an affinity for lunches at greasy hole in the walls around the high-5 in Dallas, so I gained about 30 pounds after graduation eating lunch with him almost every day.

Anyway, to echo what someone said above, my main interest is in finding out who did this and seeing that justice is served. I've been told the perps were arrested, so I figure that info's gotta be available somewhere.

Sorry for your loss world needs more men that eat at greasy spoons and carry cash for just in case gun buys.
