I don't know how anyone eats wild hog. 1) the smell 2) chance of getting brucella from cleaning them. A guy in my class had brucella from wild hogs. Always running a fever. I never asked if he had the other symptoms….

I eat 4-5 a year and so does my family. Makes excellent pan sausage! My only complaint is the fleas… I also only clean them with gloves on as a precaution.

Fleas? Before dressing them, wash them with heavy soapy water water and a scrub brush on a pole. Let them set for 10 minutes and pressure wash them off. Even better if you have a car wash with a foam brush.

First time I hog hunted was with a veterinarian some 23 years ago. He would spray the hogs down with Raid Yard Guard before we even picked them up off the ground. Never had a bug on them when we went to cleaning them.

Let their body temp cool off for a while and the fleas jump ship on their own. Not nearly as bad 30-45 minutes after kill has worked for me.

I'd rather eat feral hog over whitetail any day.

I can see someone putting a single tree in the rafters of a car wash and doing this.

I've killed I don't know how many pigs on our place. Not a single one of them has had a funk, even the boars. They eat cleaner than most pigs at industrial production facilities do - they eat deer corn, protein, pecans, acorns for the most part.

The worst part about them is cutting their hide off, that will dull a knife quick.

Would you share your pan sausage recipe? I like to experiment with recipes of pan sausage made from pork

The first time I did this was in Freer, Tx. The pig was filthy and covered with fleas. Loaded it up and drove about Two miles from the ranch gate to a car wash. I was getting all sorts of looks from two women in the stall next to me. When I finished, she said she liked what I did and then asked for the pigs head.

Sorry I missed this earlier. I get mine processed at Bellville Meat Market. Once my kids leave home I'll probably take up processing on my own.... maybe
