Owls are my favorite birds.

I heard a barn owl screeching in my backyard one night, so I grabbed my flashlight and went outside to find him. He was perched in the oak tree on the SE side of our yard. Such a cool bird.

At work, I take care of a facility way out in NW Upton County and have to drive through a pretty substantial prairie dog town on this lease to get to it. I'll see if I can stop and take pics of the burrowing owls that use the abandoned holes/tunnels for shelter. It's hilarious to drive by and see an owl popping his head in and out of there.

Owls are the coolest birds out there. We have a few resident owls that hang around our deer camp. One has even been bold enough to land on the ground not terribly far from us and just hang out and watch. Probably also hoping we toss him some chicken bones from the pit.

He was on the wing at first so I guess he was "fly" fishing. If I see him again, owl ask him. Since I didn't have my fly rod I didn't give a hoot!

Until recently we lived on 4 acres on Johns Road in Boerne. We had a Great Horned Owl hang out quite a bit by our driveway. My wife would hoot at it and the owl would answer her every time. She would do it for long periods of time and got a real kick out of it. Pretty sure it got our cat but that's just speculation.

We had a mating pair at the cabin at the ranch for years. We'd find scat all over the place - bundles of hair and varmint bone. Pretty cool. At night they'd fly in, hoot and get all pissy that we were "intruding" on their turf.

I did almost have my soul leave my body hunting at a friends place. Early morning hour. Tripod blind with a trapdoor entrance in the floor. Open windows. And a very disgruntled owl that temporarily turned into a flying demon trying to murder me as I opened the door....I hunted off the ground the rest of the morning. Thank goodness for secure rifle slings, and I almost fell off the ladder climbing up.
