When the weather gets warmer the Bermuda will be taller than the Iris plants. Is there something I can spray or rub on the Bermuda to kill it without hurting the Iris.

Serious replies only…

Maybe this is a dumb question but why not mow/weed eat it?

Not a dumb question. This was a poorly worded post.

The Bermuda and weeds are growing inside the raised beds with the Iris.

These are all selective to grasses, shouldn't hurt the irises. Bermuda is tough and takes multiple apps to control. Proper adjuvant selection is critical for control

Do what my dad did, and have kids pull them out. I still hate bermuda....

Is there a way to glove up and apply something like Roundup manually? I've heard of guys putting an old sock on a golf club, coating the sock with roundup, and manually "brushing" the weeds/grass to keep it off the soil. Never knew if it worked, but seems like it would?

I have several neighbors who are effective at killing it, and letting weeds take over.

A buddy of mine will get a cup of Roundup and a foam paint brush. He'll paint the top of the weeds, without getting it on his grass, and says it takes care of them.

Never tried it, but it'd be worth a shot.

in my opinion you aren't ever going to get the grass out with anything mentioned above, without hurting the iris.

Here is what i would do:

wait until late summer, when the iris are done blooming and refilling their reserves. stop watering them and let them naturally start to wilt and go dormant. Then dig the bulbs up and NUKE the bed. Re-do it all and then replant iris. It honestly looks like you need to thin them anyways, so then you could have 2 iris beds. I thin my iris every 2-3 years and give most of the bulbs away.

Thats how i would approach your Bermuda situation.
