Apparently it has reached hwy 21 and size was just updated to 40 acres.

Drove past it tonight. Heavy Forrest Service presence. Wind was blowing it toward 21 and it looked to be about 5 or so miles away. That poor area can't catch a break.

Any updates this morning on size and containment

Prescriptive burning decades ago would have solved this issue, or at least mitigated some of the impacts.

Three years of drought hasn't helped things around here. We moved in in March of 2023 and had a couple of months of really good rain, and it has been dry as a bone ever since. When Austin and La Grange get good rain lately, we typically get skipped.

They had a prescribed fire get away from them at the park a few years after the big fire and were pretty reticent to do it again for a while. They had some burns planned this winter, but never got the conditions they needed to make them doable. I don't know if this was one of the areas they planned to burn, but it sounds like there was some pretty dense fuel in the area that was burning.

SPRING PINE FIRE - DAY TWO
Acreage: 46 acres
Containment: 55%
Morning shift responders arrived, relieving the overnight shift of firefighters, and continue to work around the fire. Engine crews are will spend today mopping up, an activity to extinguish all heat near the containment lines to ensure that the fire stays within them. Texas Parks & Wildlife Department helicopter is conducting water drops on the most active areas of the fire.
One lane of the eastbound side of Highway 21 has been reopened. Smoke will be visible from the highway and surrounding areas throughout the day. Please use caution when traveling.
A wind shift is expected this afternoon. Responders will remain engaged with suppression efforts throughout the day.

While it may drag things out longer, since it is burning already, would it make sense to define containment lines at the prescribed burn area and let it go and just maintain the containment? That would achieve the prescribed burn goals correct? I am asking to learn more about the process and interactions of prescribed burns versus say a contained wildfire.
