I've got them. Bad.

I have tried:
1. Poision
2. Mechanical "stabbing" traps
3. Sound machine (supposed to send vibrations into the ground and drive them off)
4. Dachshund (some success until she gets tired. Just too many mounds across 42ac.)

Any suggestions.

Limestone county outside of Groesbeck.

Moles are not the easiest things to trap, although there are traps and techniques that work better than others. Moles are also insect eaters, so poisons such as those that work on gophers (vegetation eaters) are not very effective on moles. Whatever you can do to lessen insect populations in your yard may help some. For example, if you have a lighted yard, the light attracts insects, try turning the lights out.

The scissor traps have worked best for me. Found a thread where I discussed my wife's patented stomp plan.

It's definitely a fun, beer in hand, exercise.

ETA: jut saw you have 42ac…. Gonna need a lot of beer

I've used Gopher Hawk traps on 3.5 acres and had good success. 42 acres wouldn't be fun…

I was surprised at how few moles I had though. I swore there were 40-50 of more with the number of mounds I had. Satellite images looked like a bombing range. But after killing a dozen or so, now I just have the random 2-3 a year pop up and either the new dog digs and gets them or the Gopher Hawk trap does.

Some dogs are the mortal enemy of moles but one dachshund for 42 acres ain't gonna put a dent I think.

Scissor traps…but the most fun way is to get them with a shovel. Yes, I have done this. You have to witness them actively digging a trench, walk very slowly up to them and quickly insert the shovel at a 45 deg angle into the ground about 6 inch behind them (on the already dug tunnel). Then flip up your dirt and out they come. Smack with shovel. It is quite satisfying. I've read that one to two moles typically does a lot of damage, so taking a few out can make a noticeable difference. Good luck….

Just read the other thread…agree with them, it works.

Unfortunately this is a by product of the elimination of apex and meso predators. Same thing is happening with the overpopulation of field mice and rats in most pastures and barns.
I had the best luck with scissor traps….but our barn cats did the most good.

Them and pocket gophers are a plague on our garden and greenhouse. About two years ago I rigged a garden house and connected it to the exhaust pipe where it comes out of the muffler on my ATV and gassed them. They haven't come back yet.

Before you do it, plug all the holes you can find except the one you put the hose into.

My dog, a Schnauzer, brought a mole (jet black) into the kitchen on two occasions some 8 years ago. They were half alive.

A month ago I had about 10 holes. Assumed I had moles. Then in the middle of the afternoon a brown critter raised its head up. It was a pocket gopher. Bought poison but it dug the hole bigger and the green pellets were tossed around on the side. I dug deeper, put more poison in and covered the hole with a square concrete brick. The pocket gopher came back in the hole. I don't know if it took the bait but I haven't seen anymore holes in the past month.

They are terrible where I live. La Vernia looks like a dang minefield.

I'm getting closer and closer to realizing why Carl blew up the Bushwood golf course. Those critters are not cooperating with the traps lately.
