TPWD is going to propose a Sept. 1 start date.

Also at today's commission meeting, Comm. Patton wants to move up the second split to start on Nov. 25.

I like the former but not a big fan of the latter. I'd rather keep the second split start in mid December to take advantage of the birds that invariably show up in late December and January.

It is so dumb to start the season September 1. Every other hunting season starts Saturday morning. Every once in a while when the first is on a Monday, it really screws up the Labor Day weekend hunting. They should just start the season the Saturday of Labor Day.

Seasons are set within the federal framework. Feds say when start and end can be, and how many days. Sept 1 is the earliest we can start.
