I looked for another thread anyways.

I think I need to start the deer feeder again because it is so dry everywhere and wondering if anybody know where cheap deer corn can be bought

Also I believe they sell different types of deer corn does this matter

I am in College Station

Thanks

Producers is like 7.25 a bag I think - cheapest corn and protein around. Their 20% protein is like $11.45-11.80 a bag and deer hammer it.

If you want to help the deer because of poor range conditions and the lack of browse and forbes due to drought conditions then feed protein pellets with a minimum of 16% protein content.
Corn is a maximum of 6% protein and very high in carbohydrates. Deer don't need carbs during hot/warm months. They need carbs when it's cold to produce body fat. They need protein when it's hot and cold.
If you don't want to feed protein pellets then look at feeding peas as an alternative to corn …..which can have up to 20% protein.

Theres still a good bit of browse left from all the summer rain. Temps being moderate are also helping them not need as much food.

I know you have a lot of post oaks but it looks like they produced zero acorns this year. My trees that are usually loaded, dont have a one. Maybe they are recouping from the last two years of drought and heavy production.

Id look at trying to feed heavy starting when the rut hits in about 3 weeks until the late winter weeds get going in late January.

You might check with Waller Rice Drier. They sell a corn/ soybean mix, with more protein than just corn, that the deer love. Dont know current pricing but historically it was always less than protein pellets and it works great from a typical spin feeder. They have a premixed bag or will mix and bag any ratio you want.

We've been buying from Murdoch…. I also get the Grainiac Deer blocks from Tractor Supply. The blocks last about 2 1/2 weeks. We have out water which I think they like more than the feed! We're off 30 … behind where Smitty Ks was.

I mix corn anf the 20% pellets. Feed year around not for bucks really but just to help the deer out in general with a little supplement. Feed mineral occasionally as well. The 16% pellets or made for pen or fenced deer. Has some different items in it I forget to supplement them. It is more expensive and the deer like it less than the 20%. This is tegarding producers protein.
