How many here have been to Oshkosh?

My next to the oldest brother, a former professional helicopter pilot who had been all of the world, used to go to Oshkosh nearly every year. I never have made it, but have never given up on it.

There is a youtube channel called AirshowStuffVideos at https://www.youtube.com/@AirshowStuffVideos/videos with 9 videos (2 are members only), so far, from Oshkosh 2025.

The start of this one is truly amazing. It looks like 15 aircraft crossing 16 aircraft at right angles while 13 more aircraft fly underneath them in formation!

And have you ever seen two blimps flying together?

If you can pick up a tail number, you can usually find more information by searching for it on FlightAware or even just on Google or DuckDuckGo.

What is that aircraft at 10 minutes into the video?

There are probably a bunch more excellent youtube channels on Oshkosh, too.

Modified jet powered glider. I doubt that you can buy one that way.

That is like a home made U2.

Have been many times including when it was held in Rockford, IL.

My dad was a pilot (Swift, 172, 210, Twin Comanche, Comanche) and worked on corporate jets as a career. Company had 2 locations - Love Field and Appleton, WI. For him Oshkosh was a work trip, lots of fun.

Started going in 1986. Group of us from the CAF and the Alamo Liaison Squadron would take my Interstate L-6, My dad's Taylorcraft L-2, and some L Birds and other planes there. Sometimes we would just drive up.
Airplane and Aviation heaven! When my mom and dad passed we quit going for about five or so years.
Last time I went was two years ago. Not able to go this year due to conflicts.
We had so much fun going with the old CAF guys that have all passed on now. It was cool to walk around with them and hear their stories. Most of them, like my dad, had flown during WWII.
You could see all the memories in their eyes as they were around all those planes.
It was some of the most best and fun memories I have of my dad going each year.
An unbelievable experience I never got tired of.

Actual U2 on the ground this year. This is a first for me.

Have been several times. My dad was Huey pilot in Vietnam and got private fixed wing license when he got out and has owned multiple Cesnas throughout my life.

Back in the late 80's they had a bunch of Hueys and Vietnam pilots they honored. Did your dad get to be part of that? I hope.
Thanks to your dad for his service!

I went for the week 2 years ago and camped on the field. A cool experience, but not something I would do every year.

The STOL demos are really impressive.

Every year. It's an experience. I volunteer on the flight line parking planes in Vintage, so I get to see all kinds of cool stuff and talk to all kinds of cool people. This week I have already learned/saw there was a Cessna 175 without the geared motor and a Franklin instead, a French company made a bush plane with a PW 985 on it, and that Champ made a tandem seat twin trainer. There's also the exhibitors and night air shows, but the people and the "only at Oshkosh" stuff you get to see each year is what keeps me coming back every year.

I've been twice, would go every year if I could. Flew right seat for my dad the first time in 2017, then flew in as PIC in 2021 with a buddy. Camping under the wing, making friends with the folks around you, waking up to the sound of warbirds ripping the sky apart right over your head, it's an awesome place. Nothing else like it in the world.

I've never attended but planning to go next year. Planning to park/stay at one of the RV campgrounds on or near the festivities.

I am a former Civil Air Patrol chaplain in Wisconsin and our cadets are often used for marshaling aircraft on the ground and crowd control. It is a must if flying is your thing!

I don't have all the links to provide - but there was a Cessna the last day or so who struggled MIGHTILY with his arrival. Honestly, he sounded like an elderly pilot, and to ATCs credit they demonstrated incredible patience and after getting him de-conflicted with all the Rippon and Fisk traffic they brought him straight in on 9.

This morning I saw this reel. It appears when it was time to go home he found a break in taxiway traffic and blasted off. All that hard surface, why wait? Same aircraft.

FAA is going to have a visit with this guy after his arrival and departure. I'd love to hear the radio on his departure. That guy is going to get someone killed.

This is pretty crazy but I'm surprised this type of stuff doesn't happen more often. It's beyond wild to me that literally anyone with a flying machine and minimal approach procedure knowledge is welcome at this event. Easily one of the coolest but scariest things I've ever done.

I saw a reel the other day of the arrival and saw something about a plane taking off on the taxiway this morning. I didn't realize they were the same plane until your post.
